I would argue that the better managers rarely do that publicly. Maybe behind closed doors, but less so in front of the cameras.
I think of Mourinho as an example of it causing discontent. The more he started doing it in his later years, the worse things seemingly went for him and I doubt that's just coincidence.
Players obviously have friends in the dressing room, those friends obviously don't take kindly to such actions.
Hopefully he keeps that side of things behind closed doors this season.

It's not like there's a panel that sits down and watches every game together and then discusses it around a table for hours. Morison got a result against a highly regarded team. The reports were kind and there you go.
Sawyers wasn't worthy of team of the week he was our 4th best player at best. Wintle and Kipre were contenders though
