At least Man City were more thoughtful after Colin Bell won a poll to have part of the Etihad named after an ex-player.

So is this getting all meta? Was this a joke on a parody Twitter account picked up as true by the MSM and reported as fact but is in fact a joke after all? Or did Southend FC really make tw*ts of themselves without realising it?

Either every news outlet in the country has fallen for it or the club made complete tw4ts of themselves. I think it's the latter.

All they have to do is remove the word west. As the other stands are each named north, south, and east. It shouldn't be too confusing.

Or rename the current East stand and the West stand and vice versa.

By the way, the Swiss team 'Young Boys' play at the 'Wankdorf Stadium'.

I was playing Football Manager a few years ago and I saw one of the headlines being about a player linked with a transfer and that he was "keen on Young Boys".

Also, the Southend story has been confirmed as the Chairman has given an interview and expressed his disappointment at this happening, but doesn't seem to be in control of naming rights in the stadium. Odd.

Here's ESPN's take on the Wankdorf stadium being built.

    Surely this was deliberate?
