Maybe develop some new green energy capacity before turning off the oil & gas taps, and freezing all the pensioners to death? Just a thought ...

If you don't believe the Tories want to make strikes illegal for many workers you very naive.

    No, I'm just sensible.

It's like people who endlessly say the Tories are about to sell off the NHS - they've run it twice as long as Labour. It isn't happening, and neither is banning strikes.

More than happy to have a £100 bet with you on this now for the charity of your choice. There may be tweaks to the law, as there always are, but striking won't ever be made illegal.

The conversation is about Tories wanting to make strikes illegal. They might never manage to do it but it doesn't stop them wanting to.

    That itself is very naive.
The Tories have been slowly privatising the NHS, one small piece at a time, for many years.
They knew they could never just go and do it as the entire country would be in uproar. If you have a close look at what is going on behind the scenes though with private contractors being brought in etc, you can see what the w@nkers are up to.

    Okay..

So if they make strikes illegal...HA! BLOODY TORIES MAKING STRIKES ILLEGAL!!

If they don't make strikes illegal....HA! BLOODY TORIES NOT MAKING STRIKES ILLEGAL, BUT THATS WHAT THEY WANT TO DO!

Essentially, you are gonna believe what you want to believe irrespective of any evidence.

The evidence is that they want to make strikes illegal for many workers.

No, it's just not true. If you've been told this, you've been lied to, probably by someone with a political reason to try and scare you. The left always say this, but the reality is more public money than ever is spent on the NHS

This is what the Kings Fund charity said in 2021:

"Overall, there is no evidence of a significant increase in spending on private providers or widespread privatisation of services in recent years."

A cunning plan to reduce the annual pensions expenditure?

The money spent on the NHS is still nowhere near enough.
And why would I believe the king's fund charity?
I'd rather listen to the number of NHS staff and insiders that have been making such claims for years!

Absolutely true. The real reason for Brexit, orchestrated by the evil puppet masters. The sooner people understand what the Tory master plan truly is, the better. It's chilling.

Jesus wept. They are the government with a massive majority mate. They can do what they like. If they haven't, it's because they haven't done it. Your mind is a maze of fantasies, and not the hot, sexy kind.

It's somewhat ironic that Tony Benn and many others on the left were against the UK joining the common market because it is club set up to benefit big business and suppress workers.

I heard that Liz Truss is in fact Elvis Pressley dressed as a middle aged lady.

Some socialists on twitter of VERY high repute have it on very good authority that Elvis left Tennessee in the 80s because he was so gutted about the civils rights laws changing, so he came here and bunkered down for 30 years biding his time and writing a few new tracks.

That time is now, and Elvis Truss's first act will be to privatise the NHS and make it more like a US system, before banning the right to strike and anyone who wants to strike will be forced to kiss a photo of Nigel Farage first.

Anyone who demands a free operation will allegedly be force fed his new tracks and have BREXIT SHAPED pins stuck in their eyes unless they are Tories in which case Truss/Elvis will lovingly sing You are always on my mind whilst stroking their arms softly.

Why is Europe getting also hammered then? Germany is in a worse state than we are, and Macron just told the French people that the "end of abundance" has arrived.

Because the EU is a right wing construct as well?

A strong but reasonable union is more important than ever.

It is essential that the right to strike is there.

I really hope that the impending financial crisis galvanizes public opinion to support essential workers in a more meaningful way than clapping on a Thursday during Covid.
I've not argued against the right to strike. There needs to be a balance though. The 70s was an example of too much power in the hands of unions. Turned us into "The sick man of Europe"

Re: Truss eyes bonfire of workers rights to boos economy

The balance between unions and employers was too much in favour of the former forty to fifty years ago. Finally, after decades of “correcting” this fault, there are signs that people are beginning to realise that the balance needs to turn back towards the employee somewhat.
