Thread: Joe Lycett

    Joe Lycett

Don't think this has been mentioned on here, but did anyone else catch Joe Lycett on Laura Kunnesberg's new programme this morning?

LK interviewed Liz Truss then asked the panel about what our new PM said.

I doubt she'll have a comedian on her show ever again 🙂

Yeah I watched it. I like Joe Lycett, and I agree he is a centrist kinda person, but he was a weird choice for the day before a new PM is announced. Kinda odd.

Overall I think it will be a better programme than Andrew Marrs, which became a bit staid and he often seemed bored.

Pity they keep having Tories to host it.

Marr unbiased? Wasn't he a communist at oxbridge? Kuenssberg is a centrist in my book.

    Yeah OK LOL

Reported to be a former Maoist and member of the Socialist Campaign for a Labour Victory - a left-wing pressure organisation created by Labour Party members - Mr Marr described his younger self as a “raving leftie” who passed around copies of Mao Zedong’s Little Red Book at Cambridge, earning him the nickname “Red Andy”.

The New Statesman, the publication that Mr Marr has recently joined, is described to be a publication “of the left, for the left” but also a “political and literary magazine with sceptical politics” by magazine editor Jason Cowley.

If you are going to cut and paste from Wiki why not also include the claim by George Galloway that Marr was a student Trotskyist? That would be a first. I have never met anyone who managed to combine Maoism and ‘Trotskyism’ at the same time. Maybe all that is irrelevant to his views and leanings as an established broadcaster, author and journalist?

The New Statesman has a political love affair with Tony Blair and the Lib Dems. I never missed a NS political podcast for over 5 years until recently and they wound me up every time. They aren’t fans of Nazis though! Lol.

I’m disappointed, I thought the New Statesman was a Trotskyist/Maoist publication/podcast - I’ve been listening to the latter under false pretences.

Is he really a comedian though?

I thought they were supposed to be funny?

I'm off to see him at the Motorpoint on Sunday. Shame it's at the Motorpoint, but still looking forward to it.
I don't expect there'll be many Daily Mail readers there though https://mobile.twitter.com/joelycett...35152553041923
Did anyone watch the Have I Got News For You mentioned on their front page by the way? That was also very funny.

It'll be interesting to see how some of these "leftie" comedians react if/when we get a change of government. Some of the older ones who get dubbed as leftie, like Mark Thomas, used to lay into the last Labour government big time. A lot of the others probably don't even remember a Labour government.

It is actually an interesting point. On Mark Thomas of course, he is not 'centr-left' or 'liberal-left' like many comedians or general media types, but solidly 'left-wing'. In that sense, he was way to the left of New Labour and like you said, would lay into them endlessly.

A lot of criticism aimed at the Tories is in fact just criticism aimed at the government. People may not like to admit it but the majority of decisions made will be very similar irrespective of government, and the problems dealt with will largely be the same.

How comedy reacts when the decision makers are 'centre-left' will be interesting to see. A lot of their material will cease to be, or they'll just lob it at whomever is in government.

Really like Joe Lycett btw - enjoy

Is that the Kunnesberg that had to have a bodyguard at the Tory Conference because of her alleged anti Tory bias? Of course the left wing Marr would be more suitable for some.

Indeed. Shameful, and a timely reminder why political bigotry is as intolerable as other types.

Tbf I could come to your house with a bodyguard and say 'its shameful that I need a bodyguard to go to James' house for Sunday dinner'. It doesn't actually mean I needed one.

Funny how you always promise to come for sunday dinner on a monday morning. Yet again, yesterday I dined alone with an empty space where you and Doucus should be.

Comedy is subjective, just because you don’t find him funny doesn’t mean he’s not funny.

Lycett is just virtue signalling for likes on Twitter. He hasn't got a clue, the lightweight.

Blah blah blah jon, not from wiki. It's far too woke and shys away from uncomfortable truths. It's censored.
So when Marr himself described himself as a "raving leftist" he was misquoted? Lol
