[QUOTE=superfeathers;5355289]The middle classes will be biggest hit next by the tories. From Spring, the energy bill help is going to be targeted to those most in need. If you take away the energy bill help, then need to renew your mortgage at such a much higher rate, I don't know many people who could absorb that cost increase.

So it will be literally just the richest 1% in the country who in an ideal world this government would help out, but they're too toothless to get it through.

Is this the end of the Tories forever?[/QUOTE

If the Tories lose the next election in the manner suggested by the recent polls then they face an existential crisis. So much so that the flimsy coalition that makes up the party will fall apart. I predict the party will split into at least two new parties with the One Nation cohort forging ties with the Lib Dems in an attempt to counter a resurgent Labour party.

What may be left of the existing Tory party could well be just a rump of libertarian, free market ultra right wingers. In time their party might garner a similar level of support as the Socialist Worker party does today.
