This is a landmark moment if happens .
Hindu as well , could see a Hindu v Islam /Indian Muslim vote split in the UK , and we know they don't get on just see Leicester
Interestingly :
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the UK which may favour Labour , added to that is the growing influx of Islamic migrants .
Indian Muslims are bit more conservative , religiously peacefully but observant than the Pakistani who are more erratic and use Islam as a reason to hate the West ( but still happy to live within it )
British Indian Muslims are generally more like British Hindus (and Sikhs) they tend to merge easily and peacefully into the UK 's way of life ,than those with radical Islamic views ..
Trade with Indian maybe huge now ??
Need India to turn against Russia , if Rishi can turn that negativity around that could be huge ..
Who knows Penny may come in with a late rush ..
Rishi Sunak is not black. and even if he was, what's your point?
Sorry “person of colour ” .
Politics aside Its a huge positive to see the UK and its society providing these platforms and opportunities for all peoples of the world.
The Tories are an interesting bunch they elect woman and their front bench has many peoples of colour many more than some boardrooms and organisations in the UK .
I am of the opinion that obsessing over peoples skin colour and background is done far too frequently in the UK. It's unhealthy.
Nonetheless, it can't be ignored, it will play into how some people of Indian or non-Indian heritage vote and it may alter relations with India and other countries - who knows?
It's ironic that a large swathe of Brexit voting, racist Tory members are having Sunak thrust upon them as leader.
They made sure he didn't get it last time despite being the only one talking sense. They even thought Bojo was stepping in at the last minute to save them. But after all their efforts, there's nothing they can do
The colour of his skin , sexuality , faith or whatever doesn't mean anything to me
Hes a privileged public school tory so I hope come the next election him and his crew are out on their ears 👂
And his wife was caught short and who does he think he was kidding saying he knew nothing about it 🤣
It’s really not important whether he is from earth or not, it’s what he wants to do is most important. I expect one of his first statements to calm the livid racists is to assure them that the opportunity his family had to make a life in the uk will not be given to anyone else.
Is this the same Fishy Rishy who held a Green Card, whose wife was/is a non-dom, who was fined for partygate and supported the lying blonde buffoon whilst chancellor?
Oh and as for the Tory membership, anyone here that call on LBC? https://twitter.com/lbc/status/15838..._OkRzgIAANQzJA
Some 1984 style 'war is peace' stuff going on here.
Until recently UK immigration specifically and unequivocally favoured people from Europe (90% white) over and above people from the rest of the world (90% non white).
Now everyone is treated equally based on their skills. So thats good, isn't it?
Yeh lets get in less posh multiple properties Sir Starmer of Reigate Grammar / independent school in posh postgraduate Bachelor of Civil Law degree at St Edmund Hall at the University of Oxford then being called to the Bar ( and that wasn't for a drink and hot Madras late one Durham night with Angela ), at least the pain won't be so bad for you voting posh 'lite' Tory boy next time around ..
Party of the people I hear you shout Shadow Foreign Secretary, Lady Emily Thornberry owns 3 homes including one purchased from a housing association and is receiving rental income on both properties in Surrey and Clerkenwell.
Maxist John McDonnell has second home bungalow on the water front of the Norfolk Broads plus £760,000 home in Hillingdon, West London.
Dig deep enough and they are all posh , most second home owners lots went to Grammar school or top Universities , not many off estates like Ely , or LLanrumney ,however they pretend to understand life on these estates , and know how they feel , or do they just pursue wealth through political means on both sides of the fence
You make a valid point .. yes I think the big problems are about what folk consider as skills .
The other issue not discussed very often is how or can we support the whole family that comes with the person taking up the skilled job. Yes the skilled migrant pays taxes and adds value however the state picks up the rest of the bill in the form of family benefit , housing ,health and education provision which are all under pressure as we speak ..
Not an easy one ..
This is the usual response from the right.
I don’t think most people have an issue with success, or being “posh” as such. It’s when it’s coupled with the right wing view of I’m alright jack or “personal responsibility”.
The difference between rishi and many tories, with the examples you’ve cited above is that although the above have been successful they believe in trying to make life fairer for others.
The right like to fling around labels like champagne socialists like it’s a bad thing because if you’ve done well for yourself, you’re not allowed to have a social conscience (by their moral compass).
The likes of JRM or rishi don’t get slated because they’re posh, they get slated for being posh AND arrogant, selfish c**** who do favours for their ilk at the detriment of everyone else.
Rishi Sunak was the chancellor who approved absolutely unprecedented government spending on the greatest welfare scheme in British history that kept literally millions in work during the pandemic.
Lazy tropes are deployed by both left and right, as you have handily demonstrated above.
