Good news for the cyclist
First they came for the cars and I did not speak out because I did not own a car.
Interesting and controversial idea. I would like to know more about the arguments on both sides.
Promoting walking, cycling and public transport over private car journeys is bound to cause inconvenience and changes of habit for some - but if emissions are to come down and air quality improve, it has to start somewhere. There were outcries when councils introduced pedestrianised areas, blocked the ends of some residential roads and brought in traffic calming measures. Most people are fine with all that now they are used to it.
The Council gives far more detail than the BBC or loony site (thinks Russia is a communist state - ha!) above and makes clear there will be a 6 month trial with much more consultation and full evaluation before any decision on making it permanent.
