    Glatzel 5.5m - sold for 500k
    Isaac Vassell - 3m - released

This mess is entirely because of Warnock's ineptitude in the transfer market. His hits were Etheridge, NML, Hoilett, Smithies and Bamba. We made 500k from the sale of those 5. I'm a Warnock fan but that's 50m pissed up the wall there.

Wow lock the cheque book up if he does come!

Some awful signings, some which we at least used before releasing. Not good reading though. Some make the Sala fee and situation look silly.

Then the whole agent issues etc.

Some balance though, promotion was worth £170m to the club (no way we do that without him) and there's a transfer committee, as with Mackay and Cornelius it's not just him signing off on these alone.

At least if he did come back there's no budget.

Why would he anyway though? I get the feeling we have approached him a couple of times since he left and we are now a far worse sell.

Guess we couldn’t afford to blow that much as it was a crucial time when we really needed to just stay up, to think we almost did it is remarkable really….I just think he’s one of those managers that can put a decent championship or league 1 side together for peanuts but struggles any higher. Was listening to TS the other day talking about Brighton, can’t recall the exact details but the team that beat Everton cost less than one Everton player and less than Warnock spent with us….

Brilliant work. The man's a genius.
Having taken us up previously on an absolute shoestring - a very balanced argument.

Promotion was worth £170m which we completely failed to make any use of whatsoever.
We may as well not have bothered for all the long term good it has done. That was our opportunity to get ourselved firmly embedded as a top championship club at least and we ****ed it.

100% not true that he's being lined up according to Hudson today.

Absolute shoestring? you must be joking.

We were still in receipt of parachute payments that season so for starters we had 3 times the football budget than most clubs in the division.
then that season alone we spent £6.5m on Gary Madine, £3m on Lee Tomlin, £1.5m on Danny Ward and over 500k on Omar Bogle

Thats almost £12 million on strikers most of whom were crap for us.

Imagine spending £12 million on 4 players now?

Brighton don't splash out on transfers to the extent some other clubs do but - they are £426 million in debt to Tony Bloom, and last season lost close to £60 million. The PL is only surviving because the debt is all with the owners. Club struggling financially - just lend it another £100m

What is Tan going to say, though

Oh yeh, Mark, it's definitely true but just manage the next few will you while we try to convince Neil

He spent loads, and our wage bill was the 3rd highest in the league I think. Look, he got us up, that doesn't matter. What does matter is what a mess he made of the PL team and then the Championship side after that. We spent about 50m on crap.

£5m on Madine, £1.5m on Tomlin, £1.6m on Ward, £700k on Bogle, £400k on Paterson. Shoestring?

That's without counting the wages, signing fees etc of his free transfers or the fact he was adding to a good Championship squad that cost millions anyway

Only Paterson got in our best side, as well...

    Hoilett Zohore NML
    Ralls Patto Gunnar
    Bennett Bamba Morrison Bruno
    Etheridge

6 of them were signed by other managers, and all of his best signings were free transfers/small compensation.

That team would absolutely murder this season's side, mind. 10 wins out of 10.

Any of our current 11 get in that side? I don't think so

Warnock is like a magician! great at fooling everyone whilst lining his own pockets and of those close to him. Glad he came and got us to the prem, but he's just a modern day crook who knows how to use the system

And he doesn't leave clubs in a healthy position. He's very much about the 'Now' to the point that he damages football clubs.

yep, and we are very much not in a win-now position. We need to be building something over a few years.

Maybe Romeo as Manga isn't really a right back but I'm not convinced, and Warnock would go Manga every time. The rest? No chance.

I don't think we're in that position, either. I can't see us being a Champ club in a few years. If we can't buy anyone next summer, we are stuffed even if we stay up this time. This is the first embargo of 3. This is only the beginning.

Yes of course he would - this is the same Warnock who didn't fancy Djed Spence at right back for Middlesborough, and shipped him out on loan to Forest - where he was immediately player of the season, forest got promoted and Spence got sold for £15 million.

I think Warnock played Lee Peltier instead.

It was Dijksteel. Warnock also started playing Isiaih Jones at LWB, he just didn't fancy Spence. God knows why.

Surprised to hear that, they don’t spend much on transfers and have sold big recently too…..
