Wasn't expecting that, but a great stoppage.
Might bring the arrogant twonk back down to earth with a bit of a bump.
Looks like a rematch is pretty much a certainty.

Yes,although i can't see Junior learning anything new to combat Smith. Smith is polished, well tutored, very good at the basics.

    :)

    I've not seen the replay.
Turned it off in disappointment, seemed to me though he got straight up.

No, you were correct , it wouldn't have done him any harm to stay down for 8 seconds more.

Was it his arrogance that made him jump straight up?

There is a rematch in the contract , lets hope both boxers can ease up on the personal slating.

Middle aged (presumably) football fans slate world level boxing contender for being arrogant? Jesus wept, you're now questioning whether his arrogance mage him jump straight up rather than ring craft? Have you considered it was just desire to win as part of being a highly competitive boxer? He got hurt badly and showed a lot of heart to want to continue. Most wouldn't. Why do we have to reduce people to greats or not greats. I wanted CEJ to win after Smith's disgusting comments pre-match. But Smith earnt a great victory. That Eubank wanted to continue is testament to him. He's a competitor.

I think that in a sport where there is no hiding place, brain damage or even death are a real prospect, where you can't hide behind a team mate or be carried, where self belief has to be everything, then arrogance as some call it, is an essential, i'd prefer to call it confidence and desire. Boxing fascinates me, it's probably my favourite sport, and i would never be critical of a person who is prepared to end up unconscious or worse, in order to make a living.

I wouldn't even pretend to critique boxing performances with the slightest authority other than the most basic of layman terms.

I think this is an incredible post. If there was a yearly ceremony, observers would be calling this an early contender for post of the season !!

Yes, i would be embarrassed to do so, such is the dedication, art, skill and brutality of the sport. These people are different. I feel a bit embarrassed when i analyse football, for the same sort of reasons, although i tell myself that due to the fact that i kicked a ball about a bit 20 years ago, then it's my right.....
