Also Fawley Towers different league in my opinion.

Fawlty had a few good bits but was basically a constant rehash of misunderstanding between some pompous British bloke and a Spaniard - 7/10

Only fools was class and has stood the test of time still funny 9.5/10

The end was class they did become millionaires.

    Not really funny is it?

People from Madrid aren't like that, it's like cartoon humour.

Early Doors was recently or still is on BBC4 , so is probably available on iPlayer. Great stuff, well written.
Dad's Army is probably my favourite though, and managing to keep it going for over 80 episodes is a reflection of how good Jimmy Perry and David Croft were.

Yes, but they made it, the last few were just to finish it off they weren't meant to be funny, and most people loved the characters by then, it was just to finish the story if you liked the series it was brilliant.

Half the country can't be wrong.

"Time on Our Hands" is an episode of the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses. First screened on 29 December 1996, it was the final episode of that year's Christmas trilogy and the fifteenth Christmas special overall. It attracted a television audience of 24.3 million, a record for a British sitcom. In the episode, the Trotters finally become millionaires. It had initially been intended to be the series finale, but creator John Sullivan wrote three more specials that were screened annually between 2001 and 2003, starting with "If They Could See Us Now".

I don't like Only Fools And Horses either.

The 'cockney stupid' school of humour really grates on me. How can you like it?

A lot of people watch the euro vision song contest

That doesn't mean it's any good

All humour has its time but some humour dates very quickly

Only Fools , One Foot etc didn't take long to age in my opinion

Whereas fawlty towers and porridge and a lot of the two Ronnie's sketches keep well

We rewatched all of Reggie Perrin and Yes (Prime) Minister over the summer.

Perrin was dire. Absolutely cringeworthy. Nothing like what we remembered.

Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister was even better with age. Beautifully written and acted. Still relevant after 40 odd years.

Dad’s Army really was a classic, most probably the best of the long running comedies.....no, it is the best of long running ones.

Special mention for Father Ted, Two Doors Down, Scot Squad.

Yes (Prime) Minister was excellent, but it had an awful update which should act as a warning to Fawlty Towers.

The audience were laughing at him, not with him, so for me, there was a tragic element to the show, he basically ****ed everything up he touched. I can see how people found it funny though, and i think that saying that the people who watched it were likely 'Plebs' is a bit unfair, and slightly superior if you don't mind me saying, although i an on your hymn sheet. Stewart Lee said it better than all of us.
Stuart Lee is a very interesting comedian indeed. Makes his audience think.

The Likely Lads, Porridge and Auf Wiedersehen Pet all came from the excellent partnership of Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais.

Loved Fawlty Towers, I’ve seen them all plenty of times and still laugh.

Sadly these days people are looking to be offended, some people seem to enjoy it. John Cleese isn’t one to hold back but i just sense it will be a bit rubbish.

This is what people don't seem to get

Cleese in the original Fawlty Towers was taking the piss out of racist old twats afraid of foreigners whilst really being afraid of himself

But if Cleese of recent times makes Fawlty Towers again he's not going to have to get in character as he already is a miserable old bigot
