Thread: Radiohead

  1. #1

    Radiohead

Musically a very good band , almost smashing pumpkins in technicalities

But the singer has a nasal whine of a voice that ruins it for me

    So bollocks to them

The Bends is a great Album.
    OK Computer...is ok.

The rest isn't my cup of Darjeeling.

I saw them a good few years ago and wasn't impressed, the venue was awful though.

Terrible, terrible, terrible 'singer'. Shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near a recording studio

Most singers with 90s indie bands were mind numbingly bland. Yorke is just plain awful though. Another vastly over-rated indie 'singer' is Ian Brown of the Stone Roses.

I like his voice, the one I couldn't stand was Brett Anderson from Suede

Bland is generous for a lot of them. Seemed to work with the music most of the time though.
Ian Brown really was/is atrocious though.
    Definitely one to avoid

You need to re read the thread

    Musically very good

Remind me of the smashing pumpkins when they go impro free form

But the singer is a cock

It's interesting you mention iron maiden who again are musically very good but again are spoilt by a poor singer

Neither of these bands are crap but I can't listen to them unless it's an instrumental

Now get on your bike and get out of here

    Re: Radiohead

Muse are alright, I remember seeing a pro-shot vid on TV of "time is running out', they were playing some festival, may have even been glasto. Not my type of band, but remember thinking it was a pretty killer live performance that fitted that sort of tune.

This what I mean by a great mellow expansive sound with slow , noisy interchanges that the pumpkins and radiohead did so well

    Both crap singers though

Its a personal thing. Lots of whiny singers came out around that period. You either love it or hate it. Like i said i've not really listened to them but you don't sell that many albums if your singer is crap.
I think Lars Ulrich from Metallica is pants. Many would disagree.

Lars Ulrich as a drummer is crap ?

Or you mean James Hetfield as a vocalist ?

I like early Metallica when they were a thrash band

I've only seen the documentary and that could be staged. Lars doesn't ! at times seem to know what time signature he's supposed to playing. Hetfield on the other hand does.

    Re: Radiohead

I find Thom Yorke's voice irritating on times which is a shame as it detracts from the interesting sounds they produce.

I admire the fact that they never compromised, done it on their own terms. From the mid 90s and into the noughties I thought they were a welcome retreat from that lad culture and girl power which seemed to be prevalent in British music back then.

Radiohead are essentially a prog rock band more influenced by krautrock (especially Can) and Jeff Buckley than the pomp of Genesis/Yes/ELP

Nothing to do with Radiohead, have never listened to any of their albums and thus no opinion, however, no Friday night tunes fred, and Friday night is a night for a few beers and some tunes, it's been a vodka and 80's synth night, was going to go with something from the Human League but have settled on this, Vienna was the big hit at the time for Ultravox, from the Vienna album and puts me at just finishing my apprenticeship working at Heathrow airport, staying in a B & B at Hounslow, this was a regular on the juke box at the nearest boozer.
