In 10 years time, who will be in a higher division, us or Wrexham?

    Different trajectories, touch and go.

    I know who they’ll make a film about 🎥

Its going to be interesting how serious the actors are in the coming years.

Throwing money at the National League is one thing.

How much of their wealth are they willing to lose trying to get Wrexham up the Football Leagues.?

Us is the answer even if we are in L1.

Ryan Reynolds is apparently a very shrewd businessman. He's made fortunes through his various business ventures. Funding Wrexham almost certainly costs him a tiny fraction of his wealth and that wouldn't be likely to change in League Two or League One either.

Us. Unless Reynolds and McElhenney get some serious money from elsewhere.

Who knows? While it's fun to have a guess and make a prediction based on the here and now, here's some food for thought.

If the same question had been asked during the 2002/03 season about who would be in a higher division in 10 years time, us or Swansea, I doubt one single City fan would have given "The Jacks" as an answer. During that season we won promotion to the second tier while Swansea, under asset-stripper Tony Petty, struggled for their league future and club existence. 10 years on and they had spend 2 seasons in the Premier League, for us to finally join them for 1.

We have the population to command a top flight football club and leave the jacks behind but its never going to happen

CCFC has always been run like a toilet

Reynolds already has serious money but do they really need serious money to overtake us? They might even do it in less than 5 years

Knock our team, why don’t you? This board should be for fans who want the City to do well and be successful. Not for those who glory in poor performances from the club.

Reynolds worth is guessed at $150~$300 million, so lets say $300 million due to his sale of mint. The reported figure for Wrexham was £2 million but the Hulu (Disney) first docuseries netted them more than that.

Its a great journey for the club, town and country but they'll need to bring on other backers if they managed to get out of the conference and L2.

I am not a Ryan Renolds expert but he appears to take a stake in fledgling projects, promote them and sell his stake. Not sure there is much clamour to buy L2 or even L1 clubs unless you have some emotional attachment.

Series 6 of Welcome to Wrexham may be a bit boring at a mid table L1 club where you can't outspend far larger clubs

Vinny bought us when he was a bored billionaire, football is exciting, glamourous and is a buzz, the Wrexham lads have that in spades and pay fortunes to not be in the limelight and a quick chat to championship owners will tell them its the quick way to the poor(er) house.

At a rough guess, I would say that so far, Wrexham has cost them practically nothing. Their income has far outweighed their outgoings. The problems arise when they get into the League, as there are strict rules regarding sustainability, financial fair play, etc. They won't be able to splash the cash the way they do now.

That maybe the case but the majority of this thread is pure speculation. At the end of the day it’s a cool football story about a team from Wales. Although I really couldn’t care less about what the outcome is, I’m quite happy to follow along and see how it plays out.

Re: In 10 years time, who will be in a higher division, us or Wrexham?

Us. They might get to League 1 but can’t see them getting out. Crawley, Forest Green, Salford have all gone the same path. Remember Rushden & Diamonds …

Re: In 10 years time, who will be in a higher division, us or Wrexham?

Getting back to back promotions (assuming they go up this season) might actually backfire for them.

Their squad as it is currently is good enough to compete comfortably in League 2 with some minor additions, if they were to get promoted though they would need a massive overhaul. Lots of the players from the documentary people are fond of will be pushed to the side lines for new faces. They'd start losing a lot of games. The likes of Mullin and Palmer would be going from scoring every game to getting a handful of goals between them every month.

The brand would take a hit and they'd likely lose a lot of the international support and interest.

Even if Ferrell gets involved, wo thinks serious money is getting spent, in league terms?

Shares were given to the two North Americans for nothing on condition they invested. They wanted the ground redevelopment funded by the Levelling Up fund. - ie taxpayers. They've asked Wrexham's Trust to hand over the leasehold of the ground.

Putting money in t get into the League is one thing, to progress to the Prem as Reynolds laughably claimed will take serious wonga. IF they get into League Two, they've then gt to get promotion into League One and the quality of club at that level is light years above

The documentary only has a finite shelf life, once that happens the media interest dies, the sudden fans disappear and Wrexham could well end up in the state we were when Hammam was on his way out.

    Wrexham- more forward thinking.

Logic would say that you (and really anyone on here) don’t have a clue as to how this will pan out

So Prem within ten years then?

What we know is that whilst outspending every other club, it's still been fairly minimal in the context of things. We know that the taxpayers were expected to pick up the tab for the redevelopment as Plan A. We know that a lot of money has been invested in players whose resale value may not go up. We know the standard of League Two has improved, look at Salford et al. We know that League One has some massive clubs, difficult to get out of. We know the Championship is tough.

The days of teams doing a Wimbledon have long gone.

Forward thinking? You mean they want to get out of the National League? Imagine that.
