The numbers that this could affect are miniscule, yet some parts of the press are on it as if its a major policy that will benefit everyone who attempts to enter the country by fair means or foul.
It the boats are stopped, as apparently its one of the top 5 issues the electorate are concerned about, then there'll be no need for it anyway.
What is not spoken about is the after effects and allowable Family reunion ruling :
"Your partner or child may be able to join or stay with you in the UK if:
you were part of a family before you were forced to leave your country
you have protection status (permission to stay as a refugee or person with humanitarian protection)
The real version of this story is that *all* young people leaving care in Wales receive a basic income of £1,600 a month (approx. £1,250 after tax).
The same applies to refugee children who arrived in Wales unaccompanied by an adult.
But that doesn’t fit cruel Tory narratives.
Cruel? Maybe it's because many people feel that they are walking over dozens of homeless people in Cardiff and have done for years and that there are better uses of the money?
Maybe you are the cruel one for not prioritizing them? I dunno.
I do know that labelling and insulting people is usually a tactic used by people who do not understand or cannot argue against the alternative points being made.
The problem is this. The UK expect 56,000 boat arrivals this year, meaning we would need to house 140,000 asylum seekers. (See article below, published yesterday)
https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/bri...ar-2023-04-19/
Population wise, Wales' share of that 140,000 is about 7,000 people. Cardiff's share of that is around 850 people
This city builds about 1000 new dwellings a year. Now obviously you can house people in different ways, in new types of accomodation and not all of the 140,000 etc will stay.
But you can see why people are concerned. And that's before any new infrastructure is built such as schools, dentists, doctors surgeries and the like.
Things are really fkn tough for some people. That's why the asylum system is something people need to have faith in, and it needs to serve the most deserving, not anyone who happens to be able to get here from an already safe country.
This is what's so frustrating. When I look at my mates who are vocal about abusing anyone who questions what is happening they are nearly all comfortably off middle class left-wing types who can afford the luxury of not taking any responsibility for things as long as they appear caring and compassionate.
Compassion is important, but so too is building a decent society for everyone that lives here and the two things aren't always easy to balance. People should think about that before they lazily label people cruel or racist, because it almost certainly is not the case. It's just people are more at the forefront of what's going on and perhaps more impacted by it.
From Express apologies it is accurate I watched it : Ouch
Rishi Sunak skewered Sir Keir Starmer during PMQs today as he produced his bespoke pension deal from his time as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The Prime Minister was in stitches as he waved around a copy of the Pensions Increase (Pension Scheme for Keir Starmer QC) Regulations 2013.
The arrangement means the lifetime allowance does not apply to Sir Keir's pension contributions from his time as DPP between 2008 and 2013.
Sir Keir has vowed to reimpose the £1.07million cap on pensions savings - recently scrapped by the Tories - if he takes the keys to No 10.
But the Prime Minister said the legislation shows it was "literally one law for him and tax rises for everyone else".
Mr Sunak said: "I can't quite remember but I think he started by talking about when he was DPP in 2013.
THE TRUTH HERE FOR ALL YOU DULL TORIES.

Fantastic policy.

Before the asylum seeker slant was daubed over it you were supportive. Might be worth waiting for the results of the trial as you sensibly suggested and drawing conclusions then, I suppose?
Politics isn't a game ?? it is a power struggle between different groups of people . Hope that helps .
I don't personally rage about folk doing well I like aspiration , with both leaders that's what we have either a many millions millionare , or a billionaire , both with lnown baked in protections which we don't benefit from .
A policy was put forward backed by Sir Kiers in his role as DPP in 2013 , under Coaltion , no Labour backlash then . Why ? Did Sir Kier not see political path in 2013 ?
Sadly I think your missing the point which one of hypocrisy rich is rich compared to us ..
A real socialist view would see one never backin it or had any involvment but he did as he recommended it along with others.
Surely one would have his calculations worked out as this is about folk earning over a million being exempt from certain taxes .
As we leave 2013 and were in the topical 2023 attack folk with wealth it doesn't matter ?? he will benefit massively, so to attack a policy introduced by a Tory government involving the DPP for judges and then talk down others enjoying the same benefits in 2023 is bizzare a mistake and perhaps has a smell of hypocrisy.
Once again he has been badly advised .
Please tell me as I'm plotically stunted why he should benefit from an uncapped pension pot and others like doctors/ surgeons are not , is it case judges are more important ??
When in glass houses don't chuck yer £ 700,000 pensions pot about ?
This might help:
Under Sir Keir's arrangement with the Government, his DPP pension is increased annually to keep pace with rising prices. Experts estimated he will have almost £700,000 in the scheme on retirement, based on his nest egg being 20 times the annual pension – £620,000, plus a lump sum of £74,000.22 ( Mar 2023)
