    Re: The Manics

    Over rated band

Some good tunes , Kevin Carter , Motorcycle Emptiness being prime examples but not consistent

The millennium gig they did was one of the most boring concerts I have ever been to not helped by thousands of thicko taffs in Welsh rugby tops pissed out of their minds

The Super Furries were OK though

They started off good, but I went off them fairly quickly.

This. Vastly overrated. And mostly boring.

For me, it was. Design For Life and that’s it.

    Re: The Manics

They were never going to make another Holy Bible without Richie. I’d argue Holy Bible is one of the best albums of the 90s.

A superb band and excellent live even now.
I find that people who slag them off often haven’t scratched the surface

    Re: The Manics

I tried hard but they’re not for me.

    No surface all feeling.

I find people who like the manics really like the manics. A cult band perhaps.

I'd never debate who is better or what's good as it's completely personal but to me the manics are the greatest band of all time and pretty much the only band I listen to.

(Ps can not believe Sludge hasn't commented yet that the band support forest, spurs and Liverpool but he can use that as another stick to beat them with)

Thought the Holy Bible was a great album. Didn't mind the comeback initially but they should have packed it in years ago. Credit to them for getting to number one with a song about the Spanish Civil War.

    It's embarrassing

It was the secret he had missed.

I was thinking that about Richey, could it be his influence was greater than it seemed?

He wrote 75% of the lyrics on Holy Bible. Without his edge and the grief of his disappearance, they were always going to change direction. There’s tracks post-Richey but Holy Bible is an absolute masterpiece.

    Re: The Manics

Some decent tunes along the way, and not bad live, but not a band I choose to listen to that often.

Best band to ever grace this planet.
