Thread: Russia In Crisis

  1. #26

    Re: Russia about to topple

Of course anything that helps topple Putin is welcome.

But Prigozhin is a thug.. admitted interfering in elections with warrants out for his arrest.

Getting rid of Putin is good, but Prigozhin is not a guarantee of a more democratic and free Russia.

Its interesting to see right wingers fighting about which right wing nut job they want to back and left wing nut jobs soiling themselves at the thought of backing Prigozhin to get rid of Putin.

Maybe its time to spring Alexei Navalny... Probably the only person capable of leading Russia into a new era.

One thing is for sure, if Wagner is involved it won't be over until the fat lady sings!

Putin v head of a mercenary group. Not sure it's particularly a good thing for Russia

    Re: Russia about to topple

Hard not to see all of this as very significant.

What's interesting now is the reaction of the Russian people if/when they head north through various towns towards Moscow.

Let's hope this doesn't turn into a Russian civil war now

The GRU wouldn't let the latter scenario happen whoever wins out in this internal conflict.

I can't see Progozhin coming out of this alive and Putin will be considerably weakened.

    Re: Russia about to topple

One possible downside is that if Putin feels sufficiently threatened is there a chance he could launch battlefield nukes (or even worse) in a last ditch survival bid or to go out in glory?

The odds would appear to be stacked against Progozhin. Unless he's had some kind of assurances from high up in the Russian military command.
It certainly seems a very bold move on his part.

Also, strong rumours that Belarus' President Alexander Lukashenko has fled the country.

    Re: Russia about to topple

Moreover the Ukraine army will be loving this, surely without Wagner backing the Russians up on the front line they might well crumble and flee back to Russia?

    Re: Russia about to topple

I think the chances of this actually toppling Putin are pretty low, but it's got to be nothing but great news for Ukraine as Wagner was doing much of the heavy fighting there and also they are causing chaos in Russia's supply lines in the south west of the country. If it goes on for more than a day or two you'd have to think there's a chance the Ukranians can make it right to the coast and split the Russians in two... if that happens all bets are off as to what that means for Putin's war.

If things are serious enough and go long enough you'd imagine Russia even has to pull troops out of Ukraine to help back home, which could be curtains for them.

    True.

Looks as though some Russian Soldiers have been joining the Wagner ranks en route.

Lukashenko has left Belarus and reports that Kazakhstan has refused Putin support (and possibly denied his plane access to their airspace).

Hopefully ! Seems like Wagner have done a lot of the heavy lifting in Ukraine. Wonder if Putin might start dragging his better troops out of Ukraine in an attempt to shore up and try and defend Russia against any more attempts by Wagner.

Did mike support you because he wanted to. Or because you'd threatened to surround his hq with your army?

    Re: Russia about to topple

Someone on Twitter has pointed out that Wagner seem to have taken more of Russia in 12 hours, than they've managed to take of Ukraine in 16 months. Did make me chuckle

Wonder how long it is until Kadyrov himself either becomes a problem to Putin or starts facing an insurrection in Chechnya.
