You'll be sad and frustrated because we will play well in patches, and lose three one to Leicester, two of them misplaced passes.

I have to say, I'd much rather be playing this lot in September.

Tad unfortunate to play both Leicester & Leeds in August

Yes I do fear for us here, especially with our defence.

I think we may struggle even with Ralls added to the eleven!

I am working on the positive assumptions that we can't possibly be as bad as last week, that Bulut will have put the proverbial bulut up a few backsides, and that Leicester will be caught off guard.
Please correct me if I am missing any injuries:-

    Alsopp

    Romeo
    McGuiness
    Goutas
    Collins

    Bowler
    Ralls
    Ramsey
    Wintle
    O'Dowda

    Robinson

Leicester’s results have been better than their performances. We can win this.

Not particularly hopeful of a result but I think the argument the other way would be you hope to play the relegated teams early in the season, when they maybe haven’t completely sussed the style of play in division out, have a post relegation hangover and maybe have a few disgruntled players whose heart isn’t in it because they are looking for moves away.

Think you can probably make the argument that we caught Leeds by surprise in the first half, and maybe some of the factors above played some part?

Alsopp was a mistake I did mean to put in Alnwick, but none theless i'll revise this and stick both of the new boys straight in.

I can't see the new 'keeper starting, Alnwick hasn't done an awful lot wrong so far.
NG will be right-back and McGuiness will also start.
However, I do think there's a possibility the new defensive midfielder will start or at least be introduced midway during the second half.

    4-2 Leicester

Youd axe McGuinness and leave Goutas in and add Romeo to the back 4.??

    That defence looks shocking.

I suppose its all about opinions.

McGuinness so far looks the only one anywhere near good enough. Goutas looks well dodgy.

Id stick with Ng at RB as hes just much better than Romeo. If Goutas just isnt up to it and we dont sign a CB then maybe put Romeo at RB and Ng at CB but I still think that makes a dodgy back 4.

Allnwick Ng McGuinness Goutas O Dowda Wintle Ralls Ramsey Robinson Ugbo Bowler.

Don't rate McGuiness one bit. Ng isn't a right back. Not by the modern requirements anyway.

Fair enough but im genuinely stunned after our 2 openers that anyone would select Goutas over McGuinness even if we were making a change.

I hope Goutas improves , far too early to write him off but im genuinely concerned about CB. I think we are a injury to McGuinness to being in a disastrous position.

McGuiness struggles like hell when he has time to think, same as loads of defenders at this level. Put him in a position (Like the leeds game) where he has to react, then he does ok, like Lee Peltier did ok when he was getting pressured to shit and back during our Premier league season. Contrary to what some fans think, having to react as opposed to playing, is quite easy for defenders. Somebody else is dictating how they have to play, think etc. Most of them can just stop other players. Give them time on the ball, give them time to think etc, as much part of defending these days as defending a set piece. Then we see how good players are.

Ng isn't a centre back in a back four - and Bulut shows no sign of playing a back three.

If he's not a right back he won't get on the pitch.

I do rate McGunness (although he has some errors in him that need to be ironed out - and Tuerto has seen things that concern me) but I am convinced by the assessment of Bulut (and other managers) that he has the potential to be a Premier League defender.

I also think Ng is a right back - but with limitations. Romeo is safer, but less creative.

Not a bad summary that, desperation defending isn't a good barometer of a players worth. Like you say, given time he struggles massively and is easily one of our worst decision makers, the amount of balls he aimlessly just punts over the top expecting a winger to have Usain Bolt levels of speed is absurd.

My preference for Ng being at centre back is also due to his decision making, he gets halfway up the pitch and then forgets which way the goals are, he isn't a RWB by any measure, which is what is expected of anyone occupying his position in 2023.
