This is our 97th season as a league team. A year ago after our first 7 games in all competitions we had scored 3 goals, the worst ever after 7 games. This season we've netted 13 goals, which is a significant improvement on last season and is ranked 15th from all of our league seasons. Dave Jones' sides in 2008/09 and 2009/10 scored 17 and 16 respectively, Malky's 2011/12 side scored 15. 13 goals is the same as Warnock's promotion side scored after 7 and is 1 more than Malky's Championship Champions. 21 is our best, set at the start of the 1937/38 season, where, in 4 home games, we scored 5 twice and 4 twice.
Defensively, things don't look so good. A year ago our relegation scrappers had conceded just 7 from 7. This season we've conceded 13 in all competitions, ranked 81st of 97 seasons. Only once since 2000 have we conceded more, Warnock's Premier League side. 22 goals is our worst, achieved in 1955/56. Of the 15 seasons where we have conceded more, we've gone down on 5 occasions and just avoided relegation on a further 8.
At least with all the goals being scored we've had some excitement.
