Lots of empty seats (still probably 100,000 there though) and the crowd quite quiet as Pakistan get to 40-0 in the eighth over.

It'll soon fill up when it's India's turn to bat.

When any cricket team has an opening bowler that is going at 10 runs per over, then they have severe problems. I remember Bob Willis some years ago saying in an interview that Woakes shouldn’t be anywhere near an England side, as he wasn't an international quality bowler. His prophecy is proving correct and yet they continue to pick him. Curran isn't much better either.

Woakes is a great bowler in English conditions, not as effective overseas. Curran was player of the tournament 4 years ago.

Well, Woakes and Currans performances in the first three games of this World Cup has been nothing short of embarrassing.

I blame the coach more than woakes hi self. Woakes is a good player in poor form, coach and captain shouldn't have selected him

Woakes is a reasonable batter but bowling wise is basically a dobber who can swing it a bit but usually only in England. If thats the level that gets you into and England World Cup team then that says a lot. I agree that the captain and coach have to take responsibility for picking him.

England just about to lose to Afghanistan. They look totally disinterested.

Man of the series in the Ashes to a Dobber in less than three months, that’s some transformation . That said, picking Woakes for a World Cup on the sub continent in particular is always going to be a risk. As for Curran, his bowling struggles are more of a surprise, because he did really well in the IPL - he’s right out of form with the bat as well.

England are going to lose this by a hundred, that’s really embarrassing, especially following the trouncing by New Zealand. Their one dimensional way of playing is being found out on wickets that reward a more subtle approach.

Bob Willis would have known a bowler when he saw him. He thought Woakes was a dobber, so thats good enough for me. He bowls at 80mph and at least 3 balls of every over are rubbish. Thats not good enough at this level.

    Great day for cricket.

    Lousy day for England.

Fair play to Afghanistan. That wasn't a case of everything going right for them, and then clinging for an upset. They had a big setback with those quick wickets, easily could have crumbled. But they did well to recover and still put up a score. Then defended it easily, absolutely brilliant bowling performance.

    Entirely agree.

England look like an ageing team in a difficult environment.

The stadium in Delhi where England played Afghanistan was stunning. Much more interesting than some of the massive bowls theyve built.

South Africa now 89-5 against the Netherlands

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread

I was fancying South Africa to win the thing until the way they completely fell apart in the closing overs of the Netherlands innings - they could go on to win today, but they’ve been very sloppy.

Just as I type that, South Africa lose a big wicket - 145-7.

Very big game for both teams! You would expect England to make changes as they haven’t performed yet

Stokes and Willey will probably come in. Possibly Moeen Ali aswell depending on the pitch.

If this was a boxing match, the ref would probably stop it. Englands bowlers totally unable to put the ball in the right areas. It will need a miracle for England to get 400, especially one batsman light.
