Thread: Port Vale Fan

    Port Vale Fan

Watched the game in Protaras, Cyprus, bloke on a table near me in the bar says to me, ‘Dear God, is that Rob Page? He used to manage us’. I’ve never, ever met a Port Vale fan on holiday before, so that was the initial shock, regardless of our result tonight his opinion of Page wasn’t so much of a shock. Can’t knock Page at this particular moment but a Port Vale fan having a go puts things into perspective. Great result though

Brilliant result and history will judge, one way or another that he took us to our first world cup in a million years etc etc.

I find him very uninspiring but I suppose his record isn't bad really, and that's with losing some of the best talent Wales had for years.

He got lucky in exceptional circumstances I guess, but deserves some credit.

And I've always quite liked Port Vale for some reason. Nice name. Not Stoke City.

Interesting "fact" about Port Vale (probably wrong )
I was told they are the only team in the league not named after a place you can find on a map.

Cue a shedload of responses refuting this.

Arsenal, though arguably they were originally Woolwich Arsenal before they moved north of the river.

Arsenal's a tube station, so can technically be found on a map.

But it wasn't named after a place, the station was named after the club.

Arsenal was named after a building, which is a place - but not one found on the map like the post said.

Ready for someone to continue playing semantics tennis with me

Port Vale was named after a location in a canal within the Vale of Burslem.

So "a league", not "the league" - the one that port vale is in

Ive nothing against Pagey, he is a proud welshman managing his country, he cares and it shows

Yes he got lucky with the players we had ( as did Cookie ) it all clicked at the right time and of course Bale often made the difference

We know Pagey makes some tactical / selection errors, but speak to any football fan and they will all say that about a manager

I think we often forget, we haven't the biggest pool of players to choose from, we have imho punched above our weight since 2014, its been a great 10 years, our decline can not solely be put down to Pagey
