    Good old chatgpt

Asked it for a rare Cardiff City fact. Its first attempt was to say we're the only Welsh club to win the FA cup, so hardly rare. When pushed for a better fact, it claimed that we're the only side to manage a 6-6 draw at Fulham in 1961. We didn't.

I just asked it for some more facts and this is what it came up with. None of them appear to be correct:

The Resilient Record-Breaker: In the 1928-1929 season, Cardiff City's goalkeeper Tom Farquharson set a remarkable record by playing in every minute of every game, a total of 59 competitive matches in one season.
[Not true according to wiki: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Farquharson ]

The 'Bluebirds' Moniker Origin: Cardiff City FC is known as the 'Bluebirds,' a nickname derived from the blue kit colors. However, the origin of this nickname can be traced back to the team adopting the blue shirts after being inspired by the bluebird emblem of a local regiment in the early 20th century.
[Unsure - I thought this was something to do with a play at the new Theatre?]

Record FA Cup Final Attendance: The 1927 FA Cup Final between Cardiff City and Arsenal, which Cardiff won, still holds the record for the highest attendance in an FA Cup Final. It drew a crowd of over 91,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium.
[Not true according to wiki, which suggests that it had a slightly lower attendance than others of its time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FA_Cup_finals
Happy to cut this a bit of slack as the Portsmouth final is a record attendance for the new Wembley with 89,804 so this may be the root of the error]

European Odyssey of 1968: During their remarkable run to the European Cup Winners' Cup semifinals in 1968, they faced German club Hamburg SV, but their home leg was played at the neutral venue of Highbury, Arsenal's stadium, due to political tensions at the time.
[Not true, no idea where it came from https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967...Winners%27_Cup ]

Cardiff City's Brazilian Connection: In 2007, Cardiff City signed Brazilian striker Rafael Meireles Cabral Sobis on loan from Real Betis, marking a rare occurrence of a Brazilian player representing the club.
[No player with all of these names exists, but there is a Rafael Sobis who played for Real Betis, but no such loan to Cardiff https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_S%C3%B3bis
We had to wait until 2014 to sign our only ever Brazilian - Fabio]

Chatgpt doesn't work like a Google search. It's a language model, it doesn't comprehend or understand a question in the way we assume it does. It doesn't search out your answer, it uses its massive database to give a likely response based on algorithms to make it seem human.

That's what is convincing about it, its writing is so natural that we're fooled into thinking there's more under the bonnet than there really is.

If there's something in its database saying why Cardiff are called the bluebirds then it's going to use it, and it does not fact check. Actually there's a lot of user feedback that updates in the last few months are making it less reliable and useful.

It just got an interesting fact right, at last.

“Famous fans of Cardiff City Football Club include the British tv presenter Phillip Schofield.”

    Re: Good old chatgpt

Cardiff City, like many football clubs, has its fair share of famous fans. However, the information on celebrity supporters can change over time, and new affiliations may develop. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, here are a few notable individuals known to be supporters of Cardiff City:

Charlotte Church: The Welsh singer and actress Charlotte Church is a known Cardiff City fan.

Ioan Gruffudd: The Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd has expressed his support for Cardiff City on various occasions.

Rhys Ifans: Another Welsh actor, Rhys Ifans, is known to be a fan of the club.

Tom Jones: The legendary singer Sir Tom Jones, a Welsh icon, has also been associated with supporting Cardiff City.

Remember that celebrity affiliations with football clubs can sometimes be based on regional ties, personal preferences, or family connections. It's a good idea to check the latest information or the celebrities' own statements for the most up-to-date details on their football allegiances.

To be fair it gives a disclaimer, are any of those City fans?

ChatGPT is a fantastic tool, used it for plenty of things but we need to inform Elon Musk and co that the key to stopping judgement day is bamboozle it with City questions.
