Yet More Labour budget cuts at the Senedd

    https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/p...unces-28314404

For the left leaning rag that is Walesonline to even bother reporting this is rare but ...

"Huge financial cuts across services in Wales are being announced today as the Welsh Government reveals details of its budget for 2024-25. The Welsh Government say this is the toughest financial situation faced since the start of devolution.

The Welsh Government has a budget of around £22bn with about 80% of that spent on the health service and councils. While it says it will protect the NHS and frontline council services, like schools and social care, they say as a result of inflation, Wales’ overall budget is worth £1.3bn less in real terms since it was set in 2021. There are some questions about that £1.3bn figure.

The Welsh Governance Centre says Welsh Government funding for 2024-25 is set to be worth nearly £800m less in real terms and including inflation in that figure means the loss is actually worth £1.5bn. There are challenges relating to things like pay increases. For example, higher-than-expected pay increaseshave added £300m-£400m to government and council pay bills and in the emergency budget, more money was given to the NHS and Transport for Wales"

This is after 2 years ago Drakeford forgot to spend 150,000,000 and had to give it back.

On Radio Wales 5 this morning they were talking about the devolved money etc - for every £100 spent on a person in England, Wales gets £115 and Northern Ireland gets £120

Yet more budget cuts at the Senedd after UK Government slashes funding - just adding a bit of balance. Also, “left leaning rag”?

I was channelling my inner Sludge mode. Dont worry Bob I realise it's all Thatcher's fault really.

However the article does say :-
"Higher-than-expected pay increases have added £300m-£400m to government and council pay bills and in the emergency budget, more money was given to the NHS and Transport for Wales.

"In February, the Welsh Government published indicative spending plans and since then, it has been given an additional £368m for day-to-day spending via Barnett consequentials"

For info - The Welsh Gov £23.5bn budget comes from
    £18.6bn from the UK government
£3.5bn from Welsh rates of income tax
    £1.1bn from business rates
    £280bn from devolved taxes

You have to take off the 150,000,000 Drakeford forgot to spend...

And you quote the Welsh Governance Centre as saying that there is an effective loss of £1.5 billion compared to last year - under the circumstances, there has to be cuts of some sort somewhere.

Wales and Northern Ireland are economically deprived areas compared to your glorious motherland so obviously they are going to get more funding

Do you not want people to reply to your thread then or what? It's likely I'm one of the youngest on this board.

But yeah typical tory, deflecting and not responding to what I said.

It now says that its budget for next year is worth £1.3bn less in real spending power than when it was set three years ago, because of the impact of inflation BBC.

Mark Drakeford makes 'crisis' cuts to prop-up NHS and trains BBC Devolved power.

Junior doctors in Wales will strike in January after a huge majority voted for industrial action.A 72-hour full walkout will take place from 15 January over a pay dispute. Devolved power

Wales budget: Pubs and shops face tax hike to prop up NHS

Add to that the pisa education results, a welsh ambulance service that isnt fit for purpose, numerous special measures for hospitals, Cardiff and Vale which only has 11 ambulances and 2 para medic cars. The airport, the M4 relief , no more roads, 20 mph debacle - and it is becoming the shower of sh1t most knew he always was - just like the next one and the previous one. Keep the red flag flying boys - he would tax that as well if he could.

Have a read of this and perhaps learn. Bit of advice though, keep the replies interesting, reasonable and offer an interesting discussion arguing against the points raised. There’s a good lad.

Missed out on cash due to £150m returned to London, £100m wasted on Cardiff airport, £50m on 20mph, countless millions squandered on Gilestone farm, pressure groups

Re: Yet More Labour budget cuts at the Senedd

Despite having the power to do so, the Senedd have yet to create their own income tax rates as Scotland have done. If ever there was a time to do it, it's now, but I don't think they've got the balls to do it.

Let's say all of those are true. That Wales having an airport is a complete waste. All of those figures equal £300 million. This is absolute peanuts compared to the amount of wastage from Westminster on top of the cuts from austerity which has crippled a nation.

If they really had balls, they would cut taxes to encourage people who are gainfully employed to move here from the rest of the UK.

Ok last time in power, Labour ran a deficit during a boom period and broke their own budget rules. They had committee's for everything = Waste.
Do you honestly think a bigger government department wastes fewer £ than a private sector company ?

So what about the conservatives since 2010

They have spaffed billions against the wall

This idea that conservatives are good for the country's finances and labour are bad is full of holes
