You should really try to tidy up a bit more often.

Retired from Comedy the first time he tried it, utter rubbish, but probably still better than that famous woke one on here, that had massive gigs like St David Hall. (famous to some but I've never heard of him before or since)

    Three Little Birds was good.

Except for all that 'black supremacy and woke' stuff of course!

Sounds like his stepping back is relief from the comic concerned......

It's odd. Someone who is known as a comedian, but who is actually not funny. My first thought when I read the thread title was "Thank God, he was awful", and I'm glad to see it wasn't just me thinking that. I got dragged along to see him live at St Davids Hall some years ago, and I don't think I laughed once. Nice guy, and does a lot of sterling work, but he lost his edge years ago.

Did he ever have “an edge” ???

Think the only time I ever laughed when he was on tele was TisWas and I was only watching that because of Sally James

He hasn't had much to do with comedy - stand up or comedy sketch shows - for over 20 years (maybe nearer 30 years) apart from Comic Relief.

I was never bothered by his comedy either way - but that was because of a New Faces legacy of bland Saturday evening material that was inoffensive but often pointless. I didn't find him funny most of the time either. He was not alone with that - it applied to most TV comedy below the 'greats'.

I like him as a documentary maker (or at least presenter) and he has become a good drama script writer and actor (including a couple of high profile Shakespeare performances).

He also seems to be a good guy.

Ahh, the memories......’Another one of Sally James’ almost famous pop interviews’. The cartoon of her was quite mesmerising.

He spoke at my sons graduation last year.
I was pleasantly surprised that I found his speech quite funny. Delivering a funny speech though is very different to being a funny comedian.
