Thread: A £1,000 bet on people’s lives

  1. #1

    A £1,000 bet on people’s lives

Two very rich men, in a fireside chat, place a £1,000 sporting bet on whether one of them can effect a punishment on people desperately seeking refuge, within a mutually-agreed time.

    A Dickensian tale?

    No - it’s Britain in 2024.

And the men are Rishi Sunak & Piers Morgan.

Appalling beyond words. The arrogance, the cruelty, the lack of empathy or morality. It's sick!

I remember a time when governments had no money to house our homeless people, and they still don't.

    It's not that surprising though.

What’s that got to do with the United Kingdom’s Prime Miniature making a sick £1,000 bet on sending people to Rwanda? WTF has happened to this country’s politicians?

They've rented out nearly every 4-star hotel in Britain to house homeless people.

    What a ridiculously pompous post.

He didn't actually do a bet. FFS! The faux outrage is so ridiculous

I saw it as an attempt by Morgan to pin down a slippery Sunak. I'm guessing they both know it's unlikely to happen, and I tend to agree with that assumption.

Sunak has been backtracking this morning. 'Not a betting man'!

Makes him look even more remote, incompetent and slippery. In a hole and getting his butler to carry on digging!

He bet big on vaccines before the pandemic was even a thing, and he made himself a fortune. It's definitely one for the coincidence theorists!

Not even a rented house, as Serco are paying over the odds for long-term contracts on buy-to-let properties that include all maintenance costs, and returning the house to it's original condition at the end of the contract. So the only thing a landlord has to do is check their bank balance at the end of the month. Nice work if you can get it.

And yet he feels the need to say he was taken by surprise by the offer of the bet - is that really a good thing for a PM to say?

I wasn’t too bothered by the original story, but this “explanation” only makes things worse.

Seems Sunak also repeated his claim that Starmer supported causes he appeared as defence counsel for - it’s going to be a very dirty election as one side has nothing positive to fight on.

Makes what worse? This is a text book case of left-wing faux outrage on twitter (and examples exist of right wing faux outrage too!).

Nothing happened. There was no bet. The pomposity of people to get angry over this when there is so much serious stuff going on is absolutely beyond.

"he betted on people's lives!" No he didn't. It's a lie.

You are such a liar. I always thought you were just disingenuous, but you are lying here.

There was a bet, why did Sunak feel the need to justify himself if there wasn’t?

He repeatedly said he wanted to get people on the planes. At no point does he confirm a bet. And if he did, it is in no way a representatation of the story in how the OP posted it.

Honestly, it's pathetic. The twitterification of politics is turning this country into total dopes.

I can't believe you support the Amritsar massacre. Outrageous.
