    The run continues...

Erol Bulut's Cardiff City side are currently on a dismal run of 37 Championship matches without beating an opponent by two or more goals. The last time the Bluebirds managed to beat anyone in a league game by two or more goals was the 2-0 victory over Bristol City at the Cardiff City Stadium way back on 28th October 2023.

No other club in the top five divisions of English football are on a longer run of this kind. Lowly Morecambe, who are rock bottom of the Football League, are second on the list with a string of 32 League Two games without beating an opponent by two or more goals.

City are also on a run of 38 games without scoring three or more goals in a Championship match. The last time Bulut’s boys managed to score three or more in a league game was the 4-0 victory at Huddersfield on 24th October 2023.

On the flip side, the Bluebirds have been defeated in Championship matches by two or more goals on 17 occasions during the same period, while no less than 10 sides have managed to score three or more goals against City from the end of October 2023 to present.

This season is only 5 games old. Most of those stats / facts were well established at the end of last season. The question is not whether he goes - that can only be a matter of soon or sooner surely - but how the hell is he still here. Of much greater concern. He is without question a football fraud.

Eric, would your spreadsheet be able to highlight the longest runs in the club's history of failing to beat anyone by two or more goals and failing to score three or more goals in a game (league matches only)?

I was going to trawl through the history books and have a look, but I've got family commitments today.

Yes, sure. It'll be later today but easily done.

In fairness to the fans, I think there was a general feeling that we were fed up of changing the manager so often and that there was little confidence that the club would replace him with anyone better so we may as well stick with Bulut and give him a little bit of money to spend. It seems the tide has now very much turned against him.

It’s indicative of how much this manager has drained my confidence, that between now and Christmas I only see 3 games where I feel we have a realistic chance of a victory, and only 3 others where I feel we can possibly lose by only 1 goal.

    What have I become!?

Just tell them something has come up. Sure they will understand.

Getting players match fit and not getting injured is a real problem.
The least worse option is Colwill and Tanner starting.
The game was over for me when Bulut put Asworth up front on his own.
    Reindorf should have come on.

Those statistics are a damming indictment on Bulets management. How he ever got a contract extension is beyond me.

Our longest run of wins by a single goal was over 15 wins, set between Sep 1980 and Nov 1981. We're 3 games away from equalling this achievement. We have also been on a run of 12 wins by a single goal overlapping the end of the inspirational tenures of Slade and Trollope and the first 7 games of Warnock's reign. That run in 1980/81 saw only 1 victory by more than a single goal in 19 wins. An honourable mention is earned by Malky Mackay, whose side won 15 out of 17 games by a single goal in 2012/13 in winning the title.

The longest run of league fixtures without scoring 3 or more was set between Feb 1978 and Feb 1979 and lasted 40 league games. Over those 40 games we scored 43 goals and won 12. Our current run is 38 league games where we've scored 33 and won 13.
