Thread: El Ghazi

    El Ghazi

For anyone who was at Derby yesterday or watched the game on a stream, how did El Ghazi perform? I've only seen a brief highlights package (due to Sky's EFL highlights recording system messing up yet again), and he barely featured in it.

That about covers it, barely involved.

Cut inside once and smashed over.

    NML looked twice the player

I was at Derby. Watched him quite closely. After 5 mins I said to my son I thought he was a good yard off the pace of the game. Both moving forward and going backwards. Nothing happened in his remaining minutes to change my opinion - he just got more sluggish. IMHO he is nowhere near fit enough to start a championship football match.

Very quiet. Probably unfit. I'm sure it was him and Chambers done on the wing for their goal.

Only Colwill looked capable of being any threat yesterday and his influence faded as the game went on.

Good to hear about Colwill. Surely he needs to start every game and have a run in the team? He'll gain more consistency doing that than by being in and out of the line up and used occasionally from the bench.

I watched a highlights package of about eight minutes from Derby's coverage on YouTube. Colwill showed up prominently and the Derby commentators praised Willock's involvement after he came on, but no mention of El Ghazi.

Thanks, I suspected that would be the case but it makes you wonder if and when he will be fit. With no reserve team football these days, I guess he'll have to be given regular game time to bring him up to speed (assuming he still has it in him).

Just my opinion of course, but when our wide players received the ball they were pretty much always deeper than their Derby equivalents, with a ball that took longer to get to them and subsequently better covered.

Yes, I agree. It was painful waiting for the ball to get out to the wingers.

Having said that, AEG needs a few more weeks to get up to speed, and then we'll have a real player on our hands.

Definitely, as he had so much time without playing games. He’s still only 29 so the hope is his class is still there.

I watched the same highlights reel. Any attacking play we had came through the middle (and there wasn't much) Coiwill's shot early on which forced a save and Tanner's effort where he did the hard work but lacked quality with the finish, and an overhit set piece. So there wasn't anything really to go on. The Derby goal was a disgrace, and i'm always amazed that things like that aren't picked up on on here. There were five City players ball watching, the cross wasn't even a particularly good one, and the fullback was done. That's six players screwed, seven if you want to include the keeper, although he had no chance. That's a disgrace.

Remember how excited everyone was pre season when we signed him. Bulut and the board were being praised for making such serious signings and really "going for it". Happens every pre season people go over the top about signings. All fans of all clubs do it. It's what keeps people coming back I guess? The hope that player you costs a lot of money and nobody else wants is going to be the guy to turn it all around.....people were even excited about kanga from YouTube and how he was an upgrade.

    Then the season starts.......

At least he has some pedigree. He hasn't played for a while, although if his career had prgressed then he certainly wouldn't be with us.

I actually think Kanga offers a bit more than Etete et al, but you're right about these signings - Willock, El Ghazi, Chambers, they all flatter to deceive..

    Re: El Ghazi

He’s not ready. He’s miles off the pace although the few times he did go down the outside, there was nobody to cross to. Colwill has to play. He was streets ahead of anyone else in a blue shirt. We are so easy to play against, one crossfield ball completely opens us up defensively (NML constantly tore Ng apart - he needs a long hard look in the mirror), while offensively, we just pass it around in front of their back 4. It is pitiful. Their goal is a joke, he’s just walked into the box unmarked. The players aren’t doing the basics and we are incredibly poorly coached. Bodes well, I think.

Willock is tidy but does nothing, Chambers can play but I don’t think he can defend, El Ghazi looks like a bloke who hasn’t played in 12 months

Kanga was marginally better yesterday but I still think Gary Madine even now would be better.

It's actually frightening but Etete would significantly improve us.

What the feck is going on with Robinson though.?

We are probably going to need about 20 points by the next window to give us a fighting chance or when maybe Isaak Davies can boost the attack.

I just can't see us winning 5 or 6 games before then.
