I was watching chinese TV the other day and they were announcing a range of initiatives to reignite their growth post-covid - we are probably going to need something similar - major infrastructure development
If Trump turns around America and Starmer fails here, everything will become very clear.

Yes it really is shocking, especially when you look at how much more expensive HS2 is than pretty much any other high speed rail project.

It isn't crossing particularly challenging terrain.
The money to purchase the land is only a small percentage of the total cost.

The rest is just mismanagement at best.

This website shows how much of an outlier we are.

Some people have got very rich from this project and the country has yet to see any benefit

I think Trump has inherited an economy in a much better state than Labour have, and the 2 countries are hugely different, stupid comparison really.

By no measure whatsoever are the USA our statistical neighbours.

You don't think the economy of the USA is in a better place than the UK?

The election results speak for themselves, Trump had a clean sweep and he also won all of the swing states. Happy voters don't return those kind of results. Starmer also had an overwhelming victory, so the comparison is valid with disgruntled voters on both sides of the Atlantic, although the Conservatives would probably get back in if an election was held tomorrow

The economy not working for the masses is different argument altogether. I am sure a cabinet of billionaires will fix that though. Sustained growth, high wages, etc put the USA in a completely different league to us.

Trump appears to have burned his base before even taking office, Starmer/Reeves didn't even manage that.

Part of me does wonder if Elon's recent outbursts are more about deflecting the attention of the average Joe who is about to get ****ed than anything else.

I'm on the fence regarding Trump carrying out all of his election promises. Actions speak louder than words as we found out with Starmer.

Why do we need a 100 mile line between Cardiff and Swansea?

It's only about 40 miles, 100 would take us to Milford Haven (or the Irish Sea)

It would make it a lot easier for the lemmings to jump into the sea
