Had a look on the Stoke forum, majority of their fans are suggesting playing the kids and save the big boys for the league.

I think we can put out a half decent team, even with resting most players who 'played' v Leeds.
Ramsey could even be on bench.

    Ng
    Fish
    Daland
    Bagan
    Maansverk
    Colwill
    Rinomhota
    Alves
    Salech
    Willock

I wouldn't argue too much with that selection. However, who would you make captain?
There's no obvious leader in amongst that lot. It's a problem with the first Xl too. Having a goalkeeper as captain doesn't do it for me. Ralls isn't guaranteed the minutes, besides, I don't think he's vocal enough during play.

You're quite right. We've lacked a leader since Morrison and Bamba. Bellamy dragged us into the Prem and Kavanagh into The Championship.

Id swap Daland for Goutas, Rino for Chambers and Willock who I wouldnt have anywhere near the squad for Tanner

Ng is the obvious choice with that lineup.

But you'd want someone more level-headed, someone who acts more responsibly and with maturity.
When NG gets into that frame of mind whereby he's more focused on personal spats and niggles, he becomes a liability.

NG has been captain numerous times previously

Does a captain actually matter all that much apart from the administrative tasks?

Players can rally themselves regardless who has the armband

I think it does matter, yes.
Certain players don't rally themselves, they need cajoling.

I think this cup game has come at a good time for us. Were it a league fixture I'm not sure the likes of Alves, Maanswerk, or Salech would get a start. I feel they will start against Stoke.

Riza said yesterday that Ramsey could be involved. Tanner and Meite are both out injured though.

I'd agree a good Captain is really important and helps the Manager while on the pitch.

Yes it's a good opportunity to give them and fringe players a chance, I don't want to risk too many first teamers, Portsmouth is an important game and there is not long inbetween.

Portsmouth are playing away at sheffield united in the league, so it might be in our favour if we are able to rest some key players and they aren't with only 2 rest days in between the matches

Ironic that our Cup win at Bramall Lane could work in our favour (or not) league wise on 4th round day.

Ramsey and Simic not involved u21s today. Must mean they're both in squad (unless they're injured of course!).

I agree. I've come to dislike him over the last two seasons.

Its a story about Wycombe not having a striker for an FA Cup game, so they put an add on ceefax.

Simpler days, from when the romance of the Cup meant something, when teams would put out their best players and not rest them to be fit to consolidate 12th place in the league for the owner of the club to earn a few extra bob.
