I’ve been worried about our central midfield having a bit of a soft belly with too many flair players, but I thought Matt Smith was superb today and worked well with the consistent Joe Allen .
That Dan James does look a real threat and was excellent, if his decision making and final ball improve he’s going to be some player.
He’s very very quick !
But worried about the chances we let Slovakia have 2nd half and in all honesty they deserved a point as they dominated the 2nd half and had it not been for 2 miskicks would have scored a couple.
Bale looked a little off it as well which didn’t help.
Overall though a really good 3 points and a clean sheet.
Very promising from such a young side.
We won and the kids done well

A critical win - win when you don't play that well - Hungary don't look mugs either - 1-1 half time
Bale was really poor. Probably the worst performance of the entire starting XI.
Started well , should have put game away before half time but second half I felt substitutions took away our outlets and encouraged Slovakia to attack. As said above , a quieter game from our talisman Bale .
Very impressed with youngsters , with Ramsey and Ampadu to come back in to strengthen midfield in away games
Hennessey isn't good enough to pass the ball out from the back if the opposition put him under any sort of pressure. We need to stop trying to do this or pick a different goalkeeper.
Brooks and James were a class above today.
Smith looks like he's going to be one hell of a player in future and he's already showcasing an incredible football brain.
Lawrence and Mepham did very well with less than 8 caps between them.
Bale poor but it didn't matter, we all have off days.
3 points, a clean sheet, some excellent displays from the youngsters, AND a Welshman captaining the team.
What's not to like?
It was just a pleasure to see the youngsters playing with so much lack of fear. No fear of losing, no fear of making a mistake, 'I'm invincible - I'm good enough' - such a lovely thing to see. Long may it continue. The ease of passing, the confidence was a treat to watch. I think these boys can give us a truly golden age. And with others missing the thought of us playing with everyone available is mouth watering.
Hungary 2-1 up against Croatia currently with 10 mins to go, could be a massive result!
Just got home. Nightmare trying to get out of the Stadium carpark after the game ...nearly 90 minutes.
As for the game James was superb. Smith and Allen very impressive in the first half but not so good after the break.
Very impressed with the Lawrence/Mepham partnership. Williams did well when he came on. Connor Roberts switched off at times.
Bale poor. Brooks good but needs to release the ball earlier.
Cracking atmosphere and the Slovakia fans were loud throughout.
Why Giggs subbed our best player was beyond me.
This group is widen open following Croatia’s defeat.
It wasn’t that long ago that we were a one man team. If Bale didn’t play, we were basically ****ed!
Now we are winning games when he’s a passenger. It all looks quite promising. Janes is like Speedy Gonzales
Rode our luck after not punishing them first half.
Unless Brookes was injured, I fail to see why he was subbed. Got away with one today as Slovakia looked decent.
3 points on the board all that matters, too many draws last time after looking good in the games.
Plenty to work on but plenty of positives, not least the performances of the youth
[QUOTE=MacAdder;4961768]Rode our luck after not punishing them first half.
Definitely matey. Pity we didn't put another one away in the first half. I always had a feeling Slovakie would come out stronger in the 2nd half. Still three points and a clean sheet is a great start!
Huge performance, scoring early and holding the lead for so long will have done them the world of good as well. Rode our luck at times but we created chances as well and Wilson should have scored.
Brooks is fantastic, James is a real threat, Smith did very well, Bale didn't have his best game but won a lot of headers and kept their defenders honest. Came back and did a lot of defensive work too.
Very positive day all round, I don't think it can be overestimated how crucial getting off to a good start in the qualifiers is, especially with a young inexperienced team with a new manager.
