Our unbeaten run rather hid the fact that we have got into the habit of starting games poorly. After the loss at Oxford, we scored early at Watford, in the home game v Coventry and in the Cup at Sheffield United and recovered quickly to equalise after Middlesbrough went ahead early on.
Since then though, we took a long time to get going against the jacks, conceded within little more than a minute at Millwall, Derby had a decent chance in the first minute before going on to have the better of the opening half against a very sluggish City team and we were 2-0 down after 13 minutes on Saturday. For all that we were up against a good side on Saturday, we’re starting poorly against ordinary Championship teams and we cannot do that at Portsmouth.
