When did we last start a league game well?

Our unbeaten run rather hid the fact that we have got into the habit of starting games poorly. After the loss at Oxford, we scored early at Watford, in the home game v Coventry and in the Cup at Sheffield United and recovered quickly to equalise after Middlesbrough went ahead early on.

Since then though, we took a long time to get going against the jacks, conceded within little more than a minute at Millwall, Derby had a decent chance in the first minute before going on to have the better of the opening half against a very sluggish City team and we were 2-0 down after 13 minutes on Saturday. For all that we were up against a good side on Saturday, we’re starting poorly against ordinary Championship teams and we cannot do that at Portsmouth.

The team/manager need to get their heads around “why” we start so poorly.

It’s a trait we’ve had for a long long time.

Is the dressing room too cozy? The warm up taking the edge off? The team talk confusing/boring/other? The stadium too empty to raise their motivation?…..

We used to start well under Bulut but stopped doing that for a long time. I wonder if it's anything to do with the number of late goals we were conceding and the points we lost? Happy medium to be found, but when we were starting well, it often didn't end well.
