Welsh Water increases, Council tax to follow.

Going up in Cardiff from 89 to 119 (without a meter aparantly but may vary on house size), what will the Council tax be from 304pm to ?

Finally my Water Meter is better now the kids have left home, so mine will be way less, shame you can't have a Council tax meter and only pay what you use.

That will affect busnesses as well, and fuel inflation, it's going to be a tricky year for many with energy costs increasing too.

Mine is band G, just looked there are also band H 365pm and I 426pm before the increase, it's over ten months by DD.

And talk of Councils rebanding and checking extensions etc as it must be years out of date.

It's a big increase that's for sure, they reckon 27% on average. I can see lots of people asking for meters to reduce it, if you have more bdrooms than people you'll be better off with a meter.

The average Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water household customer bill will increase by an average of 27% for 2025-26. A typical metered customer would see their annual bill increase from 437 to 575, whilst a typical unmetered customer would see their annual bill increase from 693 to 913.

My mum is staying with me at the moment, I casually mentioned to her that her water would be going up just over 30%, i very nearly heard her say the F word for the 1st time in my life, she was doing a MOXEY on the F and just about managed to stop

I'm on a shared supply so can't have a meter which would reduce my bill. Just had a 35% increase in the rate for next year.

After the water, an increase of 6% sounds ok.

It's going to be tough if you're young with a few kids and a big mortgage just coming up for renewal with the low fixed rates coming to an end. I think we might see a lot of bigger houses on the market as more people downsize to save on Council tax, water and energy costs.

The excess money raised will obviously be utilised elsewhere.

I can echo this. We are two people in a four bedroom house. Before we had the meter installed (18 months or so ago) we were paying 60 p.m. and after, 37 p.m. A saving of 23 p.m. or roughly 40%.

You definitely need to get a meter as you will be paying over 100 a month (according to your earlier figure of 79 p.m.). You are allowed to change your mind within 2 years and go back to standard charge if you are worse off financially with the meter.

    Its not labour,water is privatised
Your a dope if there's only two of you.A meter would half your water bills.
Also if they cant fit a meter they have to reduce your bill.
As for gas leccy the good old tories privatised that as well.

If you cant have a meter, theyll give you an assessed measured charge which will reduce the bill

Thanks for the heads up; only just heard of the assessed charge from that Martin Lewis bloke. Use to have a meter in my old house and the difference between my usage there and the rate they gave me for my new house was over 400 (p.a.). Managed to negotiate it down to a more reasonable level back then so will see what I can do with this hike.
