Thread: New manager speculation / rumours thread

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread

Seeing as this seems to happen on a regular basis in the Summer I’m not sure there isn’t something in the theory that Tan doesn’t really see the need for paying for a manager in the close season and just waits it out until close to the start of the next season saving on his and his staff’s wages

Another day, another theory. Ramsey doesn't want the job and seems to be the only man in the world who thinks he's got another year left in him to play. The problem is no-one wants to take him on and he eventually retires in October. By this time (possibly) we've installed Purse. Ramsey gets the U21s job. A month later we're 14th and Purse is sacked and Ramsey takes over the first team and we storm to promotion and Tan walks around the pitch with a big smile and mocking everyone for saying he doesn't know how to run a football club. That's it, that's the plan.

Funny you mention unwilling managers, here's the latest odds with a very close race going on for first place;-

When I first saw the page I linked, the thought did cross my mind "how many of those really want the job"? I'm sure Buckingham did, but I've seen it said that the pursuit of Nathan Jones made it clear to him that he was a second choice for the job and so who could blame him if he opted for one of the other jobs he's been linked with (e.g. Plymouth or Notts County)? Ramsey wants to keep on playing we're told and, a;though Jones has spoken in the past about his desire to manage City one day, his only public comment I'm aware of since Charlton were promoted is one saying he will be staying with them.

I've maintained for years that there are plenty of good managers who would not work for Tan and it seems to me that the number is probably growing given how we acted after sacking Bulut and now after sacking Riza.
How do Watford get managers? They sack more than us.

If we end up with someone like Neil Critchley then it really does highlight what everyone thought that this agency style appointment is a complete waste of time.

Get a couple of journalists to tweet on cue a day before deadline day that we are pushing hard for Nathan Jones then a week later appoint someone like this. Must think we are stupid

I’ll send my season ticket back

Looked on a few social media sites and, so far, I’ve yet to see a single contribution in favour of a Neil Critchley appointment.

According to my sources (I read another board), Ramsey has agreed to give up playing and said to the club he's willing to take the job.

He actually gave up playing when he signed for us two season ago!

BBM and Rambo as some sort of DOF/Manager/Assistant footballing combo?

Tanked at QPR, failed at Blackpool on his return there, sacked inside a season at Hearts. Genuinely don't think another top half League One club would give him a chance and yet, here we are...

Rumours going around that its Ramsey. Tiresome now.

If they'd come out after the Norwich game and said "we trust Ramsey to lead us into League 1" then you'd probably get more behind it, now we've publicly revealed ourselves to be just as shambolic as fans imagined

I didn't imagine it would be this shambolic. I honestly thought there would be a decision by the end of May. The club have managed to underperform against the low bar they set themselves. No decision. No communication. No manager.

I think the club were right to pursue other options, it shouldn't have taken this long though. If they'd just employed him straight away then that would've been too quick a call.

I'm not sure they were overly impressed by anyone they interviewed, thus the Jones play and ultimately agreeing to Ramsey's demands.

Hopefully we have a big summer off the field, with good appointments and we can build.

The last 3 title winners of League One all had managers who were in their first league jobs. Hughes & Schumacher did have some coaching experience, but Moutinho didn't. Id argue that Ramsey's footballing career has giving him plenty of exposure to good coach practice etc.

It's a gamble, but any appointment would have been.

It's shambolic even by our standards.

I think we needed to a complete change of direction.
    Root and branch job.
If this shambles comes to fruition I can only see more of the same.

this, the guy knows football, speaking to people involved at the club, he is 100% committed to us, he wants to do things the right way

Can we assume this is a done deal then as I know you have good contacts at the club.

Not impressed by the appointment or the nature of it if I’m honest. Only thing that gives me a bit of hope is Ramsey is aware of what is needed behind the scenes and made reference to it. Maybe he’s had promises but need to see them actioned first as broken promises and Ramsey walking away in October of his own accord I could easily see

This is Cardiff City, things can change quickly , but I would be surprised if it doesn't happen.

Yeah, he will have had the assurances to take the job. There was chat elsewhere that Choo had gone in with a derisory wage offer, that wasn't the case. However, reading between the lines, it's been a drawn out process to get to a position where everyone is happy.

I think it's been said elsewhere that VT must trust Ramsey, to give any concession to things like a restructure of staff. I think this is true. I would like to think they wouldn't promise things just to let him down, I would hope VT has that trust and respect in Ramsey.

Seriously, I think anything was a risk. We're a basket case, the options out there were a proper mixed bag. We could spend a fortune on Jones, who's a known hothead. Buckingham could potentially get eaten up by the size of the club (I know we are in League One, but the noise around us is surely much different to Oxford!). Evatt had big clashes with fans at Bolton. Or we could abroad and end up with another short term plan, where we turn over a load of players and staff into a new philosophy, for it not to work and we are in a similar predicament in League One as we have been in recent seasons.

Hopefully some positive movement on staff on the bench and around the club, a few signings and we can hit the ground running come August.

This is broadly where I am at. NJ would have been fun. But we need to rebuild the club in the right way. And we need to build on the single success story of the last few years which is the academy. Ramsey knows what wrong with the club, the squad and with individual players. He has worked within an environment of excellence so he knows what good looks like. If it is Rambo I'm happy.

Certainly looking like today is going to be the day. Very rare I disagree with Welshlad, but, if it is Ramsey, the last six weeks and more seems to have been a waste of time and money.
