Thread: Todays games

    Todays games

    Anyone watching Chelsea/Palace?
Palace goal ruled out for pushing in the wall.
Made me think of Splotties thread about fouls going unpunished. You could say that the referee stuck to the letter of the law in this case, but they are so inconsistant.

    Re: Todays games

I look forward to this being the first season where not a single goal is scored from a free kick.

Not sure I'd be bothered if we never play in the Prem again.

Just announced that the goal was ruled out on a technicality. Palace defender was less than a metre from the Chelsea wall when ball was struck. Don’t think I’ve ever seen that rule implemented before.

You can guarantee it wouldn't have been implemented the other way round.

Not disallowed for the push according to Sky, but for some gobbledygook about Gueyi being too close to the Chelsea wall - I’d have disallowed it for the push myself.

I’ve never heard of that rule before. Have you?
I’m gonna be watching every free kick now that causes a wall to be formed, more closely 😁

No, a new one on me - I’d have a right moan about football getting like rugby with all of its nonsense rule changes every season normally, but I’m trying to turn over a new leaf.

I see Chris Wood has scored for Forest, so, in true Premier League knocking style, I’ll ask can the league be as good as it’s cracked up to be if a striker who I’d say was a good Championship player, but not much more than that, into his late 20s can score 20 goals in a season at the age of 33? Credit to him because I’d definitely say he’s Premier League standard now, but it was one of the mysteries of last season to me that he was able to score so many.

Palace looking a better side than Chelsea so far

Sanchez has just gotten away with a potential penalty, clearly punches Guehi in the back of the head

I hadn’t either but they’re discussing it on 5Live now, it’s been in the laws of the game for a while apparently. Decent rule I reckon, stops grappling & grabbing prior to the ball being struck. Plain for everyone to see and makes the ref’s job a touch easier. Sensible now, as well, as decisions are explained by the ref immediately after a decision. Fans can argue as much as they like but if it’s according to the laws of the game there’s no point.

Seemingly that rule was introduced in 2019.
Does anyone on here honestly know it existed?

    The answer is yes.

That’s all well and good. But does that rule get adhered to week in week out? Also, I wonder how many managers and players are aware of that ruling.

Is it possible that Max Watters could have improved as well? 😁

All we want as watching, paying supporters, is more consistency. That rule does seem pretty clear and a good one at that.
Imagine that being implemented for the 1st time though in the last minute of a premier league title decider 😁

Good game in the Championship, Hull 2 Oxford 2 with ten minutes of the first half left.

Or us in a Division One promotion clinching game with no VAR or referee’s explanation

Arsenal score from a corner with the Man United keeper at fault - it’s like we’ve never been away.

Shocking goalkeeping, made Onana look like Peter Schmeichel.

United have done pretty well apart from that clanger and have made the Arse look very ordinary.

The other new boys Cunha and Mbeumo have looked lively but on the whole, not much of a spectacle with few clear cut chances.

One of the pleasing developments so far this season is the return of the long sleeved shirt - never been a fan of the Americanized short sleeve shirt over a long sleeved vest look.

Arsenal hanging on for what I’d say would be an undeserved 1-0 win.

I see Oli McBurnie scored a 93rd minute winner for Hull (assist by Ryan Giles).

    Re: Todays games

Chris Wood is is 10 goals away from joining the Premier League 100 club and if he does so this season it will mean he’s hit double figures in the league in 6 of the last 9 Premier League seasons. Given he’s on 2 goals after the first weekend that’s quite a realistic possibility.

Not bad for a championship striker and someone whos never really played for the top clubs in the PL.

What more proof do you want that it’s a crap league?

You’ve had another mare. Didn’t do your research. He didn’t play in the championship until his late 20s. His last game in the championship was August 2017 when he was 26. He was then sold to Burnley that transfer window and has scored 90 in 254. Almost double the amount of Championship goals he scored (46).

Stick the the lower leagues Bob. The PL isn’t for you.
