Thread: NG to left back?

    NG to left back?

Anyone else think this may be how we line up when Perry is back fit? Would love to see Kpakio continue his development and we are light down the left hand side

Why on earth would you put a right footed player, permanently on the left hand side ?

Some of the best left backs in the history of world football have been right footers - and there's Ashley Cole too!

Kpakio's done nothing wrong to deserve to be dropped for Ng so it may be a possibility

We will sign or loan one; it's the weakest position.

I was having a think about what kind of player would make a good left back in a BBM system, and I came up one former player who I'd love to see in that role (I suspect I may be the only one who thinks this though) - Niels Nkounkou.
Albeit a moot point because I doubt he would drop down to league one.

If we were to try a right back at left back, why not keep the youth theme going and try Spiers? Or am I being silly now?

I may be wrong but I have a vague recollection of NG playing left back previously? Had no idea of the history of right footers playing on the left but he’d be in pretty good company! He’s a decent footballer so there’s no reason why he couldn’t do it at this level

We've seen Ng play left back, he is very, very bad at it. It's a nice problem to have, having two good right backs. Both will get lots of game time, Kpakio can't be expected to play 46 league games.

Can someone explain why Bagan isn’t our first choice left-back? He doesn’t do much wrong, and always adds something going forward, but seems to be almost the last choice. I don’t get it.

They may be trying for Josh Wilson-Esbrand if BBM can persuade him and Man City, we could develop him and give him a lift in confidence at this level.

We tried him before. He didn't make much of an impression on me, was he any good, or better than Bagan?

I’m with you on that, I hope we bring someone else in to add to competition for the LB role and be available to cover for injuries, suspension etc
Bagan deserves this opportunity to establish himself as first choice in the team, but if Giles isn’t ready we’ll still need cover

From what I remember, he was quick and liked to get forward, though not the best defensively. Maybe at this level, with BBM guiding him, he’d fit the team better.

I think Bagan has done well so far but we will need cover for when he is suspended as he picks up a few cards. Will be interesting to see how NG slots in if/when he gets a start, could do a job in the centre as well. Would rather him there than Chambers

Bagan’s on three bookings in three league games isn’t he and one of those arguably should have been a red card- he could be serving a suspension with the transfer window still open.

    Is Luey Giles injured?

He didn't feature in the u21 match v Crewe.

Not heard anything to that effect, I’ve been expecting an announcement that he’s gone out on loan somewhere. The appointment of BBM has been great news for so many of our younger players, not sure it has been for Giles though.

Regardless of how well we played on Saturday, Centre-Back is still our weakest position IMO

    I'd agree

Lack of cover for injuries, and I'd still like to see all three coming in as starters.

We have Lawlor, Fish, Chambers and Daland still at the club - Ng and Bagan have both played there also, and I think even Eli King has in a friendly hasn't he? that's before we have to dip into the academy players.

At left back if Bagan gets injured we don't have anyone

We've seen Chambers this season and Daland is on the way out, and 4th choice. We need a centre back.

I don't disagree, but not as much as we need a left back

We need them equally. We are an injury away from an issue at CB or LB
