Sent out to Trust members this morning.

    "Dear Member,

Recently, the Trust has had an unprecedented increase in membership of 60 or so members over the space of about 3 weeks. We have not experienced such an increase in such a short time since the formation of the Trust.

Subsequently, the Trust has recently received a letter listing 28 of those members requesting we meet with them to discuss having democratically contested elections for the Trust board. There were no signatures on the letter, just printed names against membership numbers.

The letter goes on to point out that the Trust has not held a “democratically elected vote for board members since Covid due to a lack of candidates for election”. This is partially true, but we should point out that the boards during this period have gone beyond what was required of them by standing down prior to each AGM in their entirety in order to encourage other members to put their names forward to be elected. However, whilst there have been some changes in personnel, not enough members came forward to necessitate elections, so those who did put their names forward, with the approval of members at the AGMs, were elected to the board.

Our constitution and electoral policy details that only a third of the board need to step down to cater for new board members through the democratic vote. Present board numbers 8 which is one short of the required 9, with 3 spaces left for co-option should the board wish to accommodate this. As it stands this is the procedure we are abiding by for the next elections due before our AGM in May or June next year.

The 28 new members listed in the letter believe and quoted that it is “the perfect moment for both the current board and prospective members to seek a fresh mandate from the membership. A timely, well-run election would strengthen the Trust’s democratic legitimacy.”

It also quoted the meeting requested would discuss the following points

An appropriate timeline for nominations and voting
    Understanding eligibility and nomination procedures
The voting method and measures to encourage turnout
Communications to new and existing members
Options for independent oversight or scrutineering to ensure confidence in the process
The Trust would like to point out that all the above Bullet points related to elections are catered for each year in our election process and paperwork sent out to each member eligible to vote; existing members, we would assume, would already be aware of this.

Seemingly, these 28 new members are not satisfied with waiting for the Election, the process for which would take place early next year according to Trust rules, but require an Election immediately.

As a board we have always endeavoured to keep you informed of our activities, so this is to let you know of this development. We have acknowledged receipt of the communications, and we will give the contents due consideration and reply accordingly. As members we will keep you informed of our response and further developments.

I'm tempted to sign up as I don't feel the trust should be used for personal gain which is what this feels like

FFS when the rumours said a takeover I thought they meant the club itself.

Are those 28 new sign ups genuine people or a multi?

I’m sure they’re genuine people. It’s up to about 80 in 5 weeks now. Some of those are under 16s who don’t need to pay and a few of them will be people who would have joined in “normal” times, so I’d say there’s about 70 who’ve had to pay Ł12 each to become a member - if there are multis involved, it’s costing them a lot of money.

Presumably Bob if the 28 want to change the Constitution and electoral rules of the trust they would have to either

Persuade the current board to approve a new election outside the normal rules

    Or

Ask for an extraordinary general meeting to approve such elections.

Are there any other choices I have missed?

What would anyone gain from taking over the Trust?

I don’t know Elwood, never really been one for procedural arguments.

I am sure we will find out.

I did start looking through the trust documentation, but thought I would try to find some wet paint to watch instead!

Can under 16’s join without an adult/parent joining ?

Are those type of numbers joining enough to get a certain person involved if they all follow his lead when it comes to voting?

I think I'm a member of the trust, but opted out of receiving emails. I can't remember.

Can't see myself remaining a member if it was taken over by certain individuals.

Of course, it's a group thing, with a leader and followers.

Do you think they are massive fans of the owner and want him to stay forever

There are currently eight Trust board members who were approved by members at the AGM in June this year.

At the next scheduled elections in May next year ,it would be great to see more members putting themselves forward as board candidates for the three board positions that will become available. The Trust rules, as set by the FSA, are that one third of the board step down by rotation and put themselves back up for election(normally three of the maximum number of nine) but there is currently one vacancy in the nine so two will be doing so next year. All candidates will then just need three members to nominate them and produce a statement that they are not disqualified from acting by bankruptcy, criminal record etc. and setting out what skills they will bring to the board. The voting will then be decided by members and the results scrutinised and overseen by an independent party.

Re: Sent out to Trust members this morning.

I seem to remember the trust stating something like "If you don't like the way the trust is being run, then join and try to change it from within".

This sounds like some people have taken that advice.
