“It was a very pleasing performance today,” said BB-M. “To play so well and score three goals from the chances that we created, while also limiting Mansfield to very little, was very satisfying.
“We’ve had different parts of the season where we’ve been pretty good, but today we were consistently good. In the key moments of the game, we created more chances to score more goals. We could have scored more goals, and that was a very pleasing thing. With Rubin [Colwill] missing, and the team changing like it did, it was very good that we were able to create plenty of opportunities.
“When it’s 1-0 you always think it can become difficult. Therefore, to get the second goal when we did was crucial. From then on towards the end of the game, we looked very good. The togetherness of the team was brilliant today.
“We had to make changes again, so you’re looking for those players who come in to have a big impact on the team, and that was very satisfying to see. The overall performance levels of the team was very pleasing.”
The manager elected to make five changes to the side that defeated Northampton Town last weekend, but he was pleased that every player in the squad has been able to make an impact.
“I think as long as the players keep performing to the levels that they are in training and in games, we can change the team whenever we want.
“I think for the players, they are very clear on the way we want to work, and they're totally invested in it. If anybody doesn't train to the levels we expect, then they won't get the chance to get in at the moment.
“It’s a testament to the players and all the work that they’re doing that we can have a performance like we did today off the back of last Saturday’s win.”
Having played so many recent fixtures on the road, Brian concluded by looking ahead to a run of seven home fixtures in the next nine.
“We’re very conscious of how much we enjoy playing here and how much success we’ve had here this season,” Brian said. “We want to build momentum at home. The wins over Reading and Leyton Orient were important, irrespective of how they came about.
“To be able to build on those wins today and build momentum, especially when the games come around so quickly, is very important for us.”
