Thread: Welsh Punk 76-85

    Re: Welsh Punk 76-85

I went to see the Saints, didn't get in to see the support, as I was having grief about being underage. The bouncers always gave in eventually, but would make us young uns wait.

Only ever saw them in their metal days at venues like Bogiez & downstairs at The Great Western (was it called the Lions Den ?) & various valleys pubs & clubs.
Anyone else remember bands from the days of the Lions Den ?

Blimey, what was the name of the shop? It had a downstairs where I bought several bootleg LP's

From my memory, there were The Mirrors from Newport and The Table from Cardiff.

I saw The Mirrors as support at the Top Rank sometime in 77-ish. Possibly as support to The Saints in September '77??
They supported X-Ray Spex along with the Tax Exiles in 1977.

I remember it as a brilliant gig, but very sparsely populated, especially considering it was a Friday night. The band were more of a souped up R&B act, which probably why I liked them so much. Went out and bought there debut (?) album 'I'm Stranded' from the record shop in the arcade off High Street (Castle Arcade?) not long after.
    Sounds Advice.

Cheers matey Use to buy a lot of stuff from there, as well as from Buffalo Records, on the Hayes. Kelly's upstairs in the market was good too, for old 2nd hand stuff, til that greedy fecker took over in the early 1990s

Bryn went on to play with The Damned and until very recently teamed up with Andy Johnson again to form The Shamones, a Ramones tribute band. Sadly Bryn is now seriously ill with cancer and the Shamones are playing their final couple of gigs before retirement.

It was empty, the first album was pretty poor, but Eternally Yours is a great album, far more R'n B than Punk, but still sounds good today.
