    OT - Flights to America

Why are flights so much cheaper if you fly from Dublin?

They even fly to London first and you change there...

But the same flight if you book from London is double the price?

It's closer to America, so it's less fuel init.

Re: OT - Flights to America

Travelling home from Minneapolis for Christmas this year.

Aer Lingus offered the best deal with short stopovers in Chicago and Dublin into CWL. We've ususally gone with Delta / KLM via Amsterdam in the past but Aer Lingus must be trying hard at the moment.

Biggest problem is they partner with STOBART (is that Eddie?) AIR for the Dublin - Cardiff hop and it seems their planes have small overhead stowage so we've been warned carry-ons must comply!

I flew to America from Cardiff via Amstedam and Detroit. Cost me a third of the price of flying direct

Re: OT - Flights to America

    we did

Heathrow - Dublin - MCO ( orlando ) with Aer Lingus last year

Direct from Gatwick or Heathrow with Virgin or BA were over 1 K each ( virgin was 1200 each )

With Aer Lingus, it was £ 630 each

now its great on the way out, you clear immigration at Dublin, its stress free and works very well, we had a 3 & 1/2 hour layover

on the way home its dull as hell, 4 & 1/2 hours layover and Dublin airport ( as with many others ) have very little going on, we have some breakie, found a empty gate and all snoozed for 2 hours

BUT it saved us a wedge of money, so its a no-brainer to do again
