You could sensibly argue that we were making progress under Slade.
Now where are we? No idea of our best team and all over the shop.
We have got a couple of Welshies in mind...
We weren't going anywhere under Slade. Unfortunately we now appear to be going backwards under Trollope. Shades of OGS in the way he doesn't seem to know his best team.
No , Slade would still not have Marshall and Moore so we'd still be shit , I think Trollope needs to change the formation now though as it's not working .
I think it was. He came in having to cut the budget and did so and kept Cardiff very competitive. An under rated manager.
We didn't sack Slade, we moved him into a different position and then he left.
We moved him into a different position because it was clear that he could not take us onto the next level.
We don't just have a couple of Welshies, we also (for the first time since Malky's first season) have an interest in a long term plan. Trollope may or may not be the answer but he's a well respected head coach, experienced and has the backing of the club to deliver that longer term thinking.
trolop cant take us to the next leval what is the long term plan
I was a fan of Slades tenure here as he steadied a fast sinking ship and put us in a position to kick on. He was what we needed at that time but honestly we were never going to go up under him, ever. We needed a change to a more attacking and dynamic coach. Hiring Trolls was a poor decision.
He's not underrated as fairly well respected towards the end of his time here, people were wondering whether we should give him a new contract. Even when he went people were sure it would be to another championship club, however seemingly he would prefer to finally win a promotion than help yet another club survive and settle.
He's still the manager that could not find a player in the transfer window and had no interest in youth football at all. He's still the manager that continued to play Kenwynne after 2 months of not scoring a goal. He's still the manager that would drop points because he'd play the same team three times in ten days until the players were off the pace. In terms of wages spent his squad was still mightier than this squad.
We shouldn't become confused becaues of our poor start and the illusion that Slade could have delivered more.
No. The mistake was appointing a manager who didn't bother addressing any of the issues highlighted last season. The lack of leadership in midfield. The lack of pace throughout the squad. The lack of a pure goal scorer.
Slade was papering over the cracks for a long time last season. Trollope has tried to re-invent us as something we are not. A counter attacking formation will not work, because our midfielders are too slow to support the striker.

That longer term thinking may see us playing in a division below, next season. Still, never mind! Ol' Tanny has got a long term plan for the club. My guess is that it is to play regular derbies against Cewtny and Wrecsam
No. I have no reason to believe we'd be better off had he stayed, though appointing Trollope is looking less of a great decision by the day.
He is still the manager who had you finishing just outside the play offs with virtually no money to spend.
But also a manager who couldn't motivate any form of fight for the crucial Wednesday game. Finishing just outside of the play-offs on a points total which would have seen us closer to midtable in any other season would suggest a tough season as anyone could beat anyone and an easier season at the same time.
Slade did his job, steadied the ship and was let go. Hats off to him for that. What is going on now?
No, what we are witnessing under Trollope is a legacy of Slade and his Anti Football policy. He stifled creativity over a two year period, extracted any form of free thought on the pitch, not one player in the squad improved under Slade, not one young player came through and showed promise, when he left the clubwe were left with a group of players who had been programmed to play not to take risks or take control through initiative, he was oppressive in his approach and the lack of thought and creativity we are witnessing is testament to what Slade did to this squad.
Bollocks. This is Trollope's fault, not Slade's.
We finished 8th under Slade, and granted we were probably going nowhere but Trollope is clueless. We are all over the place at the back, have no creativity in midfield and can't score. Trollope is making strange selection decisions and drops the few players that can pass a ball.
ALways felt we underachieved under Slade, no reason why we couldn't have got play-offs last season. Felt like a last chance for us tbh.
