There is a very interesting interview with John Elsworthy below. Ipswich's first game in Europe after they won the league was played on "a sand and concrete pitch". I can't imagine that happening today. One of Elsworthy's team mates was Jimmy Leadbetter who I think must have been one of the frailest and oldest looking players ever to play at the top level. I would guess that he was even lighter than Brian Flynn who was just under nine stone. An 8 stone something player would not survive in the Premiership today. I think Leon Britton is one of the smallest but he is over 10 stone.
