Jury Service Summons

Can someone explain the situation if you're self employed? E.g. Say you earn £500 a week and you get called for service which lasts for two weeks, I highly doubt the court would be willing to shell out £1000 on one jury member. For the person who is self employed losing £1000 is just not feasible.

A relative did it and he would have been in the absolute crap if he didn't have people to cover for him.

To my knowledge they really don't care what your profession is. If you have day to day responsibilities that have to be tended to then better hope your employers have the wedge to hire someone or you're fellow workers are flexible.

I think employees will sometimes like it, employers despise it.
