His private religious views were apparently that homosexuality was a sin in the eyes of 'God' etc etc
The problem for him was that his private religious views became public, and when he was asked in public if he thought homosexuality was a sin etc - he stumbled and as I recall couldnt or wouldnt answer, other than to say his personal religious views were just that, private.
So what he has done 'wrong' is not say that he thinks being gay is a sin.
Anyone who bases their views on this - is a bit 'gay' in my opinion - to be politically incorrect and attempt at humour
