This was the result of the challenge by Mane. Mane intended to get the ball IMHO but it's difficult to disagree with the red card when you see the imprint it made on the keeper.
Why "he had to go for the ball" is wrong. Player's right to safety is greater than the right to do anything to try and kick the ball. pic.twitter.com/DJhDUfrA2J

Ouch. Could easily have lost an eye.
Think a three game ban is a bit much though. And Liverpool are only appealing the length of the ban to be fair.
To be fair he ducked into the ball
Pfft it's just a scratch ffs, I've done worse shaving. Bert Trauttman must be laughing in his grave.
not the best of videos (most have been removed by EPL)

Got to be a red you can't have your leg that high very dangerous and reckless and as someone has said he could've lost an eye if it caught him flush on the front of his face
Just a thought about Mane and the argument that he was going for the ball and wasn't aware / didn't have his eyes on the keeper.
How often does Mane try to trap the ball on the run by jumping so that his feet are about 6ft in the air?
Can't say I've seen him do it often, if at all.
Normally he lets the ball drop and controls it at waist height or below, when using his legs or feet that is.
So why did he jump 6 ft in the air to control this ball?
He could have nodded it on with his head. After all, that was the best he was going to do if he contacted the ball in Saturday's situation with his feet.
He jumped that high because he knew the keeper was coming. Mane didn't try to flick it with his head because he knew the keeper was coming and would win the ball. So Mane lead with his feet, knowing the keeper was on his way and gambling that the keeper would bail.
Jumping, with your studs showing at head height towards an on-rushing keeper; dangerous play and red card everyday of the week.
Hope the ban gets extended to show Liverpool how stupid their appeal is.
Had he sharpened his studs before the game? A lot of damage from a small plastic boot
