Heard some great things about this lad. Amazing for Wales to have such great potential coming through at the moment.
It’s Ampadu.
Judging by the Twitter comments, he looked as composed as anyone on that field tonight.
We have a gem.
Is he committed to Wales? Does he qualify for anyone else?
He's been through all the Wales age groups, but I think that given his position, his potential and the Woodburn situation those bellends over the border will be making a much bigger attempt to win him over.
I'm positive however that his international allegiances, experiences, relationships with coaches and players etc will help him follow Woodburn into the first team.
And by all accounts, that time is closer than we think.
His first action described below
58' Ethan Ampadu gets involved instantly after coming on by putting in a hard challenge on Danny Fox, who is subsequently substituted. https://www.fotmob.com/livescores/2619643/live-ticker/
The success last summer, the fact that the Wales players all get on with each other so well, a well respected coaching set up through the age levels and a lack of the ridiculous pressure that the media put on the England team, means that young, dual qualified players with great potential are much more likely to choose us than ever before.
Anyway, his Mam's Welsh innit.
10000% will play for Wales
He looked like his confidence was booming looking at him have a kick around at half time during the austria game.
The perfect scenario would be that we are beating georgia by more than one goal in the closing stages. Then put him on.
In reality i think it'll be too close to risk it
Or..........if we're losing. Throw him on and hope for 'A woodburn'.
Pretty sure he's a defensive midfielder, that's what I read in a report about him while he was at Exeter.
Also, he replaced cesc yesterday.
I'm never ITK. I've seen him play lots for Welsh youth teams over the past couple of years. He loves the red jersey. He's also got great leadership qualities too, so I wouldn't be surprised if he has the armband one day, providing he comes to fruition like we hope.
He played at centre half mostly at Exeter I believe. But Chelski DVP have mostly played him as a DM like you say. He's also played at right back, but that's not going to be his position as it doesn't utilise his strengths. Hopefully he masters CB and DM, but if he only masters one postiton, I hope it's in midfield. Looking down the age groups, I believe we look stronger for central defenders, but as yet, I can't see a lot of stand out contenders who can play the holding midfield role. Amapdu's main asset I feel is his reading of the game and decision making, so I reckon he'll be most useful in a position where he can dictate play more.
He does look comfortable on the ball judged by the footage available to me.
He appeared confident on the ball and had a good awareness of space and defensive shape in relation to other players. His cross field out ball went awry once or twice but short and medium passing was good.
If he has any common sense I'll be Ireland.
