England’s 8 goals have included 6 from set pieces, people would be criticising the City for those stats and moaning about a lack of creativity from open play.
To be fair, we've been good at set pieces for a number of seasons, not just since Warnock arrived.
From where I sit in the ground I don’t quite see as much hoofball as some, perhaps I should change my seat!.
I was going to say ,as most of us will only see this tournament on the TV ,an excellent opportunity
for the armchair fans to be able to comment on the football with equal authority.
I originally desisted.
As a professional armchair fan I bow to your superior knowledge and added wit.
Kane scored a "great hat-trick".
Two pelanties, and a deflection off his ankle that he knew nothing about.
What a player!
Englands high pressing style relies on winning the ball high up the pitch and quickly attacking before the defence is organised, which I suppose can be described as direct, but it is very different from a 60 yard hoof upfield when under no pressure.
When the other team has got players back they pass the ball around fairly well (not in Spain's league mind you) and probe for an opening, they don't launch it aimlessly into the box.
It doesn't look like he's saying anything of the sort, simply giving an opinion which I agree with, that it was hardly a "great" hat trick.
Harry Kane in my opinion is the perfect role model and captain for what Southgate is trying to produce... good players who have a role in a team and not a bunch of mavericks who let their egos and press write ups get to them and do their own thing.
That said, I've seen far better hat-tricks than his yesterday, although if the end product of a brilliant move is Harry Kane's final kick, then perhaps it was better than we all give credit for.
I didn't think the move for the Kane third was that good, a lot of those passes were just 5-0 up passes around the back. But his two pelanties were really excellent (stand out in a world cup awash with pelanties thus far).
We played some fine stuff early in the season. It did become a little basic as key players got injured or lost a bit of form.
The games I have watched this world cup have all been great entertainment as sides have surprisingly tended to go for it.
Warnockesque some might say.
