There are jobs out there, I’m never out of work long and I’ll take shit agency jobs as a stop gap if I’m looking for a specific job, or I’ve had a fixed term contract.

People definitely are lazy, can’t be bothered to call around agencies or look on indeed. I sorted a cv out and sent it absolutely everywhere I could in indeed when I was out of work last time. Called numerous agencies daily and was out of work less than a week.

When people see people begging on the streets, they don't see the little boy that used to climb trees, or a little girl playing with dolls.

The social problems within this country is unbelievable.

Have you ever thought of stopping and talking to someone who’s begging in the street, and if they aren’t part of an Eastern European begging scam gang, offering to take them for a hot meal, a hot drink, and spend a bit of time chatting to them ?
It’s not just down to the government. A little human interaction and generosity, can go a long way for these people.

I’m talking about having 2 weeks in a factory/warehouse while you look for something you are qualified to do.

It’s weird how there are a far greater number of obese, alcoholic gamblers in an age of wall-to-wall media and constant paddy power adverts.

Chuck into that mix a lack of job opportunities and a poor level of education and you’ll tend to get a lot more druggies and alkies.

The system is rigged and in washing your hands of any responsibility, you are an advocate for this hyper-competitive, cut-throat meritocracy that our society is rapidly becoming.

I stated out of the gate in the message you responded to that people choose their addictions. You didn't dispute that assertion, instead you absolved their weakness(es) because of a low IQ or having a poor income. I sense your remarks have much greater merit than the lousy nurturing or was fingered by uncle Fred line that some favour as a pretext.

I'd guess the number one addiction amongst Britons by a country mile is staring at the goggle box for several hours a day every day, closely followed by gawping at other screens found on mobile phones and computers.

I've acknowledged in this thread that I'm a nicotine addict and both parents died prematurely because one was also hooked on it and the other could never get enough whisky down his neck. Neither they or I, nor I suspect any other addict of anything else ever had a knife held to their throat or gun to their head.
