Thread: What are you missing the most?

What are you missing the most?

I'm not one for pubs, restaurants, shops etc, in short, i'm not the most Social in terms of being around lots of people and noise (Only at the Football, It's been perfect this season!) What i miss more than anything is going out on long walks through wooded area, exploring and listening to and watching Nature, especially now Spring has arrived, watching the birds ramp things up is a wonderful sight and seeing the trees blossom and wild flowers springing up does loads for my mental health, for me, it's better than any form of medication. Is anyone else missing certain activities that give them a sense of solace and peace?

I'm missing everything much more than I thought I would, even going into the office and being able to socialise with colleagues I've missed more than I thought I would.

Stupid routine things like going to the gym and play sport too.

Having friends round for dinner, going for drinks with mates, going out for dinner with the mrs.

Haven't seen my parents, siblings or grandparents since January either, so really missing them.

I love walking. Started bagging munros (a mountain over 3000 ft in Scotland) over the last couple of years , try to go when its not so popular to get the full experience of solitude , did two weeks last year started with Ben Lomond, pointed my camper van and headed North out of season it was brilliant. .
Love country side walks, following a map , down the Gower is great for that , up in Snowdonia also amazing (away from the mountain itself) .

It's difficult, we are creatures of habit i suppose. I know that i moan my tits off having to do some of the everyday stuff in life, but when it's taken away from you it does leave a bit of a void. I suppose it's a case of re-programming ourselves for a while. I have a problem in that i can't keep still, that's why i don't go to the cinema ect, my attention span is very poor, which makes me spontaneous, i'll just start doing something or just piss off for a few hours on my own, i'm finding this quite difficult.

Sounds perfect. I know places where to pick wild seasonal fruit and Veg, that's just through walking and exploring. I even circumnavigate golf courses with the dog and find lost balls, i sold 2000! I have to do these things to keep me straight!

Missing going down the city with my dad and seeing family and friends in general.

Also basic things like going for a coffee, a beer or the cinema.

Until today I'd had 4 days working from home so was glad to get out and about, even if just the office.

Is it forbidden to walk in the country now in the UK then... I understood national parks and the like we’re off limits but didn’t think you were locked down from walking outside?

We’ve been on lockdown here for 2 weeks but getting outside for exercise is deemed appropriate. I do live a little remotely but I am able to walk and cycle as much as I want as long as I’m not in contact with people.

It is forbidden to drive anywhere without good reason.

I can cycle or walk till my hearts content from my front door (or is it an hour)?

I'd have to drive to a wooded area, I don't think that i can justify that, can i ? The nearest to me is about three miles away, i could walk it i suppose but would be out for a considerable amount of time, putting me at risk and others i suppose. Wouldn't that be a bit indulgent on my part?

I'm really missing gigs - music and comedy. As you know, I live alone, don't have any kids and I'm not exactly the most sociable of creatures, but I do love going out regularly with my closest friends, watching bands or comedians and mixing with other like-minded individuals. For me, the gigs are a real release. I particularly enjoy travelling to other towns and cities for shows, and I'm missing that aspect of my 'normal' life considerably.

I must admit I felt quite down this morning when I turned the page on the calendar in the kitchen and there was absolutely nothing on it for the month of April. I'm saving plenty of money, but that's no consolation really. The lack of anything to look forward to in the foreseeable future is a definite drag.

I wonder where you would stand morally driving 3 miles away if it was you and you alone . I wouldn't have a problem with that, I dont think the rules allow it though.
Friend took her ailing dog half a mile down the road to the sea front in Swansea yesterday . Police man stopped her and she pointed to the dog barely able to walk . Police man said , yep , I can see your point but I dont want to see you here again.

I was looking forward to seeing simple minds in April . Would have been the first time I had seen them since the Barrowland in Glasgow when they were first making their way . I dont want to mention how many years ago that is. :)

I don't really miss anything. I like being home with my family. We sit out in the back garden. Ocassionally neighbors stop by.

I am still in work which has made things easier .There are a few of us here , the industries I am in are still allowed to function.
But it is getting quieter and quieter I may have to pull the shutters down on Friday and put everyone on Furlough .
There would be no contact for me with any one which I would imagine is a totally alien experience. .

It's hard work. My missus reckons that i've got ADHD, or some form of it. I can't even go on holiday and keep still, it's hard work at 47 years of age! When i was in school the teachers had to tie me to a chair with skipping ropes because i'd just get up and ****off out

This sounds awful, but that would kill me, after 5 minutes i'd be pulling up weeds or checking the pointing on the patio When the kids were little i'd have to build myself up to going to watch the Christmas plays as i knew that i'd have to park my arse for a couple of hours, i'd enjoy it, but it was difficult. With the football i can release emotional energy which helps me to enjoy it.

A mate of mine who posts on here (he used to be Heathblue, can't remember his current username) has seen that lot countless times all over Europe. Never seen the fascination myself.....

I had five gigs originally scheduled for April - three music, two comedy - including one of my favourite new bands at Clwb Ifor Bach. I'm really disappointed to have to miss that one.

I think that's a banker. I've always been amazed that you manage to sit still long enough to post messages on here.

    Nothing, Nothing at all

I am going to go against the flow here and say this " Lockdown " hasnt been too bad yet

Ive got a shit load of work to do on my new bungalow and we are getting on with that, 1 bedroom almost done, just need to paint the wardrobe doors, started on bedroom No 2

Setup a bit of a home gym in the garden and the family work out as a family

Eating together for every meal, breakfast, lunch and tea which is very rare with the busy lifestyle we used to have in the old world

Ive lost 7lb now, might get that down to a stone in another 2 weeks

watching the fast and furious films on NowTV, started on the weekend, enjoying that

its all quality time, yes sure i enjoy the wife and the girls a little, but i am determined to try and stay positive though all of this

It's walking for me too. We go out every day from the front door for an hour or so (some of it countryside, some of it just local streets) but at this time of the year we would be doing at least two 10-15 mile walks per week in the Peak District - and for most of them we need to drive a short way to the start. I'm hardly missing the football at all - none of that seems real after only a few weeks lockdown.

Re: What are you missing the most?

There are a few of us up here who take their dogs on longish walks to nearby villages, up into the woods etc, but when a friend of mine was stopped by a policeman and asked where he was going, he replied "taking the dog for a walk for an hour", only to be told "no you're not, make it half an hour". Therefore, my dog gets her daily exercise by walking back and for on the green outside my back garden a few times and then we go along by the local river for a while (the sound of all that is a lot better than the reality believe me!), the whole thing lasts about twenty minutes as I walk about three quarters of a mile for my allowed "exercise" period.

As for what I miss most? Simple, things feeling "normal".
