I'm not making any sacrifice whatsoever and haven't made any claims to be doing so. On the contrary, my current working arrangements suit me just fine as I'd be bored out of my brains if I was sat at home all day every day. That would definitely have a negative effect on my mental health.
Like you said, "If everyone did what I am doing the virus would be gone by now". I apologise for paraphrasing, as I am sure you will apologise for being completely unscientific. But, let's just analyse that for a moment. If everyone was going to work, as you are doing, then keeping 2m apart would be impossible.
I obviously didn't mean the virus would be eliminated within a few months if everyone was still going to work. I meant the virus would be eliminated within a few months if everyone had behaved in the same manner that I've been behaving in terms of social distancing. But you obviously knew that's exactly what I meant.
You also said "I am putting myself at risk without putting others in danger".
I said: "I've not put a single person in any kind of danger and I've put myself in harm's way on a regular basis so that more than forty of my colleagues can work from home throughout the lockdown."
I questioned the logic of that. It appears I was wrong to do so.
You were.
I would also be equally wrong to suggest that boycotting Cardiff matches from the Bob Bank is daft, in fact it shows your complete brilliance of thinking outside the box.
You would. If I was boycotting Cardiff City matches from the Bob Bank that would indeed be daft. For starters, it would be impossible as the Bob Bank was demolished in 2009. The fact is that I boycotted Cardiff City matches from July 2012 until January 2015 while the team was playing it's home games in a red kit. I haven't boycotted any matches since. I just haven't been to very many.
I think it is absolutely amazing how, in your dealings with security guards, workmen, courier drivers and so on, that you are not putting them at risk whilst, at the same time, being at risk from them.
I've not been at any risk from the majority of them. However, unfortunately there are some individuals who seemingly cannot grasp the 2-metre social distancing idea at all. I've dealt with plenty of those since mid-March. I've also encountered plenty of people out on the streets and on public transport who seemingly cannot understand it while I've been travelling to and from work.
I will call Imperial College first thing on Monday to tell them of this latest development, that somehow you have discovered that the virus only travels in one direction, and that is towards you. If we could simply isolate you, then the virus would be ****ed. It wouldn't know where to go. It would probably decide to kill itself, such would be its state of melancholy from not being able to get to you.
Don't be silly.
I am eternally grateful that you spent time discussing the topic with mere mortals.
A mere mortal? Well, I guess that's one way to describe you. I can think of plenty of others.
And, you know what, you are right.
Cheers.
I HAVE been spending much of the lockdown at home.
That much has been blatantly obvious for many weeks.
I wouldn't say I am "hiding" behind a computer screen all day, but I do have more time on my hands as a result of there being less work (and less pay), but hey - that is by the by now I know that a loss of money is nothing compared to the sacrifices you are making daily. But, I have taken your advice and as soon as my partner comes home from their night shift at a covid riddled care home, we're going to head on out there. Obviously, we'll be keeping our 2m distance from others.
That's sensible. A bit of fresh air will do you good. It seems like you badly need it.
And, this app, yep again you are right.
Cheers again.
Nobody is going to download it, so why should we?
Don't be daft. If it ever sees the light of day, millions of people will download the app. Also, millions won't.
Who, in the general public, would want to be alerted come the expected day of my partner getting covid-19 and the likely chance that they have come into contact with us as we exercise extreme 2m social distancing and get out and about there.
It's unlike you to present a worst-case scenario... If members of the public want to download the app, they will. If they don't, they won't. It's as simple as that, isn't it?
Thank-you The Lone Gunman.
Pleasure. Honest.
On Thursday we clapped for the NHS. Tonight, we're all going to clap for you. It'll be emotional.
I wouldn't bother if I were you. I won't hear you. Incidentally, you say "we're all going to....." So which poor ***** do you represent?
