Vardy. It was between us and Leicester at one point and he chose them.
Fee was agreed I think. Given the difference in both clubs since he moved you've got to say he chose well.

Saw this on Twitter, some interesting names came up. I have no recollection of Vardy or Van Dijk ever potentially coming here

Vardy was reallyclose to signing for £1m from Fleetwood, if memory serves. It was off the back of a great run of goals and a good FA cup run by their standards.
Van Dijk was linked when he was still at (I want to say Groenigen?) but he never appeared to be "close to signing".
Wasn't there a story that we were interested in signing Gary Lineker at one stage. Possibly Alan Smith too.
Spookily this popped-up on my Twitter feed today.
If only....

Cardiff City miss out on Fleetwood striker Jamie Vardy after making £1 million bid https://t.co/8HuwbdZSv2
Edit - just saw Delmbox said he saw it on Twitter too.
James Vaughan is still trying to get his kids into Howells...
John Oster.
NigelBlues (does he still post on here?) said in the Twitter thread that there was a joint £100k swoop for Gary Lineker and Alan Smith from Leicester planned at some point

Dennis Tueart.
If Vardy had come to us then i've no doubt that he'd be playing for Swindon Town reserves at this time in his career.
Terry Yorath
Tom Huddlestone.
I think he would have been perfect and just what we needed in that first season in the prem.
not sure if my memory is playing tricks, wasn't there rumours of Shearer managing us at one point?
answered my own question - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/13770272
Did the club ever confirm that? I know what Shearer claimed and I know what the ITK legends on another site claimed...
Shearer did a crap job at his beloved Newcastle. No risk for him - get relegated, not his fault, damage already done. Stay up and he's a miracle worker.
I always viewed it as Shearer making the claim up to reduce criticism for the crap work at Newcastle - "See, other club wanted me!".
Before Toshack went to Swansea and took them up, wasn’t he close to rejoining City as a player/coach or did Andrews reject that idea immediately?
