My first Glastonbury was 85 - drove straight in and parked near the main stage. headlining was Ian Dury & Blockheads, he certainly hit us with a rhythm stick although the thai grass played it's part. My next visit was 95 Glastonbury was changing full of essex boys the hells angels were gone, I can't remember who was headlining but I remember seeing Oasis and Orbital, **** me there was some potent acid going around that year.

The last time was 2011 my first time sober I was asked to DJ and for once I took a tent and was in the fields with showers. I seen BB King before he passed on, Beyonce was headlining but the highlight for me was seeing Jimmy Cliff on the small stage....Glastonbury as got to big and 2011 was just full of the hunter wellington boot brigade which thinking back the hells angels and bad boys of 85 would have loved it would have been an easy weekends work.

Late 80’s early 90’s it was the New Age travellers that Eavis had to let in and placate, not sure many of them go anymore. The festival is still one of the best in the world but it has changed a lot since I last went in 2005 I think it was

Surprised you never did it Matt, it was like a week long rave....used to go up on the Monday pm and leave the following one. My body couldn’t take that sort of abuse anymore. I’m just glad I survived some of the ridiculous stuff that went on. One year a normal looking dude with his misses camped right next to about 50 of us, he basically supplied us with E’s the whole time, god knows how many he had on him....Some nights no sleep at all up in the stone circle, random gigs at 4am in a tent in a field I’m not sure where it was even (massive attack and toots and Maytals), pear cider at the world music stage saw a young Amy winehouse there, so many DJs in the glade which was our general base during the week there. Finding my car after 7 days of fear and loathing was a mission, in 2002 I gave up trying to find it....

Its funny, none of use fancied it, smelly hippies everywhere covered in mud and unwashed for the week, a 3 mile hike to the tent, our clobber getting covered in mud, smelly hippies everywhere, I have issues with portaloo's, i hate them ( at reading festival, we camped a few years, then just stayed in hotels, the Madejski or the hilton were good , even when camping at reading i would have to walk into town ( sometimes very fast ) to find a pub for breakfast and use the bogs ) oh and did i mention smelly unwashed hippies

though looking back and reading stories, i guess we missed a party hindsight and all that

I thought the same to be honest through the 90’s and just loved going to clubs all over the place. Hooked up with a crowd who had always done both who persuaded us to give it a go, it wasn’t a difficult persuasion as he said you will never getting better music, women and drugs in the same place for a week. He was right

Never went to Glasto. Festivals are not really my thing. I've been to a few though. My favorite is Primavera. There's no camping and the hotel is right a across the street. You can basically chill in an air-conditioned room and then pick and choose who you want to see. I think I saw Devo, Public Enemy and Massive Attack there.

I would love to go to Primavera. Need to go to an international festival again but next year, I will probably go to Lovebox

Got talked into it on the Friday afternoon after one too many bottles of Michelob.

I went equipped with a bag of illegal substances and dough.

Crawled the fence (I was ****ed on acid), got into a row with a Wurzel (I was ****ed on E, so much for the love drug eh), had a liaison with some girl from Bristol, which caused the row with he Wurzel (perhaps there is something in E after all), wandered about aimlessly for two days, shit in a field, ruined a yellow Jacket and a pair of Adidas Montreal, came home on the Monday and received an absolute ****ing from my then employers (I was still ****ed when I went in on Tuesday).

Would I do it again?

I would love too but I think the wife wouldn’t be too pleased with the liaison.

Were the Montreal trainers the ones with the sole that came up quite high on the ankle part? I'm sure I had a pair back in the day. Also had some white G Vilas. I've still got and wear quite regularly a pair of Trimm Trabs

Yep, high heel thing going on with them. Used to only wear ‘Adidas’ and be pedantic about them. Haven’t bought a pair for over 10 years but occasionally throw on a pair of Montreal or ZX.

Prefer a nice pair of quality, comfortable shoes now.

I loved ZX fluxes (remake of the original) when they first came out a few years ago.

If you want a pair of comfortable Adidas shoes, try the Ultra Boost My ones are are around 2/3 years old now but still in great shape and are perfect for gym use

There was definitely an art to that.....parkour style. Going back to the tent was sometimes like a strategically planned operation, it had to be really really worth the bother....

Think my son was there too see Arthur Lee's Love. I was very envious as Forever Changes is a great album.

just seen been watching Glasto stuff on BBC2, chemical brothers at Glasto, i saw them at reading in 99

trying to think back about festivals and i remember one being just too good and it turned out to be reading 99, i guess at that time i was moving away from the rave scene and into middle aged rock, but i remember it being a great festival

Sat, The devine comedy, fun lovin criminals and Catatonia ( headline was Blur who i didnt really like, so we went and watched 3 colour red )
Sunday, started early with Toploader on some small stage, then Feeder, terrorvision, Offspring, headiiners was RHCP ( which was a issue as Ice T was on in the rap tent, but we stuck with RHCP )

It just didn’t cut it compared to UK festivals.

Been planning on Coachella for a while.

I've been once, 1990 and loved every minute of it. Happy Mondays who were my favourite band at the time were rubbish. But the whole experience was brilliant. Didn't buy a ticket, but jumped the fence.

Didn't even have a tent, but luckily bumped into a few lads from Brynmawr who let us crash in theirs.
Couldn't believe how big the site was.
Would I go again? I'm not sure. Would you?
