Banks close branches everywhere telling us it's to improve services, they pay their top people £millions for failure, yet a geniune- though possibly misguided -action, to help a fellow human being has ended like this..
I saw somewhere, a woman was sacked ,after working for the company in a cafe or bakery for nearly 40 years because she used her bank card to pay for her elderly customers as they only had cash. She took the cash and used her card but it was against company policy to accept cash.
That's the rules, they are put in place to protect the customers.
Some people treat bank workers like their personal financial advisors
They know she only helped the old bloke and didn't take advantage of him (from the checks they did).
She should have told her line managers what she was doing - but the punishment is way out of proportion to any breach of rules.
This is disciplinary action by numbers - with no empathy and no common sense!
As shit as the dicision is, there's potential there for him to be ripped off.
I understand they've investigated the incident and there was no financial gain for her but the rules are there for a purpose. Sackable offence is very harsh, but she's obviously done wrong (by doing good)
